2011 Citroen C5 e-HDI Eco Mode probs

Post by Hamsterboy »

Hi All.....first time Citroen owner here.
Have just bought a 2011 Citroen C5 e-HDI Touring and I have a question about the start-stop "Eco Mode" system. It worked intermittently for a while but not it hasn't worked in about a month.
I've had it back to the dealership a few times and there's nothing they can see wrong with the system but they did suggest that the battery that was in the car when I bought it may not be a good one, even though it says it is a "Start Stop" battery.
Just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems.
I understand there are certain conditions which have to be met for the Eco Mode to activate but I've met them all quite a few times.

Thanks in advance

I know 3/5 of sod all about stop/start systems but i do know the C5 goes into eco mode when the battery is weak. The fact that its being constantly used with a stop/start system would also point to a shorter battery life as well so i'd say its quite feasible its done after 4 years.

Yep, what I was thinking too but just said I'd put it up here and get some opinions.
Have to say the dealer did attempt to stop my heart with the quote for a new battery........began with a 2...... :) Then again I guess a regular battery wouldn't cut it with such a system

Cheers

It should be fine with a decent battery. 90 odd amp one is what is fitted in my next doors Audi
Do the battery off/on procedure as in this .. http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 11&t=40407

Charge the battery over night and reconnect following the guide exactly. 80% of these problems are battery related, I would think the Stop/Start is the same.

If the battery is an original to the car it maybe shagged by now and Citroen's are very sensitive to the slightest power loss/lots of short trips. The system does NOT test the battery, it calculates/estimates based on journey times...s**t really but hey ho.

If the car has stop/start fitted it needs to have an AGM type battery fitted (hence the high price), these are designed to cope with the regular stopping & starting, a normal flooded battery wont last very long in a stop/start car. Not sure what battery goes in your C5 but at a guess it's probably an AGM 096, Even a Euro car parts Lion special is £118 (wouldn't touch one with a barge pole), That gives you an idea of what a half decent one should cost. When selecting a car battery the most important number is the Cold cranking amps not the Ah rating.

I've just had one of these delivered this morning. It has 5 year warranty. 780CCA and 77AH for £65 delivered.

Although my C5 is starting OK after a couple of days standing, I'd noticed eco mode was coming in after 5mins. A couple of days ago I put the multimeter across the terminals and it was just showing 12.2volts. It's 5.5 years old and I'm going to Spain in a few weeks time so I thought it best to have a change.

Unless I cant see it in the link that battery doesn't appear to be an AGM type meaning its not really any good for cars with stop/start.
