Xantia - Replacing fuel injectors

Post by lancia58 »

Hi

I have a Xantia 2.0 16v make year 2000 ( RFV engine ) . I want to replace the fuel injectors. I wanted to detach the fuel rail I removed the 4 bolts that secure the fuel rail. Then I tried to detach the fuel rail with the injectors but it looks like the injectors are stacked in the engine. I was sure that after removing the 4 bolts the injectors with the fuel rail will easily detached. I tried to apply force to detach the injectors from the engine but I was afraid to break the injectors or the fuel rail. Should the inlet manifold be removed in order to detach the injectors ?
BTW I detached a fuel rail of a Xantia 1.8 16v and the injectors came out easily .

Can anyone help me with replacing the injectors of the RFV ( 2.0 16V) engine ?

Thanks
Zohar

Did the fact that I did while the engine was a bit hot has any effect ? Should I wait till the engien is cold ?

Thanks

The injectors should come out easily enough, as you know from your other removal job.

They're only held in by the O rings and I suspect this is the problem; the O rings have likely gone very hard...

Thanks Jim. So if I'll pull hard enough the injectors will come out ? Is it better to do it while the engine is cold ( over night ) . Using long nose pliers to detach the injector one by one can help ?

Thanks

As a general rule, stuck injectors are more likely to come out of a hot engine than a cold one due to the greater expansion of aluminium than steel.

Cola is a good penetrating fluid where aluminium is involved as the acid in it dissolves aluminium oxide (just think what it does to your teeth ). One trick is to get the engine hot, remove the injector clamps, then trickle a little Cola down the outside of each injector in turn. This may have to be repeated. Cooling the injectors make them shrink slightly - the object being to crack them off the seals. If the injectors sit in wells, mop up the cola before actually pulling the injector out.

I think we are talking about a petrol engine here, so there is no metal to metal contact, just the rubber seals which go hard.
