Xantia is lot a better than C5
I have took a test driver the Xantia hdi 110 and XM 2.1TD. I have found the suspension system more mechanical and it works lot better and it feels more less body roll, smooth as the C5. I am not expert about cars but did the C5 have a full electric hydractive suspension system?
Because of this is awful lot of body roll go around the corners, when you brake gentle the front go down too much, steering feels vague and very annoy when you put the suspensions ride height that you wish and it go back to auto level when you go over something like 10mph. The sport button on central console suppose to stiff the suspension I can't feel anything the different to me seem the C5 is spoil over Xantia and XM.
Anyone experience buy from Xantia, XM to C5 or C5 to Xantia, XM

Re: Xantia is lot a better than C5
C5 is a better workhorse car. Bigger car, more solid, more room to work in engine.Better taxi Up to 2004 they are great VFM. They lack character.
Xantia handles better but is smaller, tighter cabin, awkward linkages for suspension height, poor access on suspension pipes, and for cambelt change. They also leak like Land Rovers from that hydraulic system. They rust as well and they are old. They have classic lines

I've owned a sinker 1.9td Xant, a Mk1 C5 and now a Mk3 X7 C5, i'll stick with my X7 thanks. Its prettier, faster, more economical and better to drive (but the seats from the MK1 would be preferable)

C5 is better built but imo not much of a looker.
The storage space in the cab of a Xantia is stupid aswell, although it was designed well before the age of cubby holes everywhere.
I wouldn't mind a C5 estate tbh, but at the same time i much prefer the looks of the xantia

Aye the C5 II is my preferred one. The X7 and C6 are pretty too.

1. The lowest and highest suspension settings are for service use ONLY. Driving the car in either settings risks doing serious damage to the suspension. Intermediate height is only for SLOWLY negotiating rough ground or flood water, which is why the suspension ECU (on a C5) automatically cancels INTERMEDIATE once 20 mph or so is exceeded.
2. Changing between Sport and Normal modes simply causes the Hydractive suspension ECU to use a different set of parameters to determine when to stiffen the suspension according to: road speed, rate of turn, acceleration/deceleration. In sedate driving you won't notice any difference.
As it happens, I prefer the elegant nose of the (Mk1) Xantia to the rounder nose of the Xantia II. I don't like either the styling of the earlier C5s or Renault substitution of potentially unreliable electronics for the elegantly clever-yet-simple hydro-mechanical control system that reached a zenith with the non-sinker, non-Hydractive Xantia.
By the same token I prefer the XUD in its last pre-emissions guise - simple, reliable and fool-proof - and now that the price of diesel has dropped, 10% less fuel efficiency is a price I'm willing to pay for easy maintenance.
That said, if I came across a really nice, low mileage, well maintained, late 110HDi estate, I be very tempted to retire the Green Lady.

Re: Xantia is lot a better than C5
I've never owned a xantia, just driven two, both owned on this forum, for a short distance so I can only say I loved both my c5's. The mk 1 sx I loved the interior, the mk 2, an 07 vtr was not so comfy. My ideal c5 would be a 2.0 hdi 16v 136, facelift front end, mk 1 sx seats, or mk 1 leather, and a mk 1 hatch rear end.

Thank you for reminder me about suspension setting, I though you could drive different ride height for better handling and ride comfort but I was wrong!Old-Guy wrote:Two misunderstandings here:fv43576 wrote:I have took a test driver the Xantia hdi 110 and XM 2.1TD.
