Lexia v7.xx on Netbook with Win7 Ultimate
I've just aquired an Acer Aspire One netbook (atom 1.6ghz 2gb ram) and have read that others have installed Lexia successfully on Win7 32-bit (which this has). Advise from those that use the same hardware would be appreciated
However, all I seem to be doing at the moment (had it three days now!) is installing hundreds of Windows Updates. Now, seeing as they say it won't install or work properly on XP with service packs, should I stop right now and reload the recovery software and disable Windows Update or carry on?

Haven't heard the thing about it not working properly on XP with service packs. I believe for some of the functionality to work it requires at least XP SP2, and there is only 1 after that.MikeT wrote:I've just aquired an Acer Aspire One netbook (atom 1.6ghz 2gb ram) and have read that others have installed Lexia successfully on Win7 32-bit (which this has). But yes the restriction of Lexia not working is due to the 64 bit architecture dropping support for 16 bit applications. So generally 32bit versions should be fine and dandy (not sure if anyone has tried it on 8 or 10 on 32bit).

Re: Lexia v7.xx on Netbook with Win7 Ultimate
Win 7 has a completely different 'core' to XP, so any issues with XP Service Packs are irrelevant to Windows 7.
It sounds as though your Netbook had been restored to Factory status, before you acquired it. That means years of Windows (7) updates to be installed. It's a real pain (been there several times).
Some of those updates will fix actual problems, others will be 'improved versions' of existing functions and utilities. Unless someone knows of an actual problem caused by a particular Update, it would be a good idea to persist with them to avoid problems in the future.
The Atom processor might conceivably cause problems - unlikely but always possible with chip sets that aren't the most common.

Yes, they wiped and restored it before passing it to me and even if they handn't, I would have. The "slow" processor just brings it home how premature and then bloated these Win OS releases have gotten. I'll carry on with the updates as you advise and see how the Lexia install goes.
I know others use Lexia with Atom CPU's so would be good to know it's not caused them issues.

I have a Toshiba NB250 (with 2GB RAM), running Windows 7 Starter on an Atom chip, and it does work well (once I have let Windows get fully started). I am running DiagBox 7.15 on it (kit supplied by Easy Diagnostics).

Thanks for the confirmation James.
I think there's a few updates available (7.65) if you want them. I believe this is the equivalent of the official V8 but without the latest anti-piracy security enhancements

Re: Lexia v7.xx on Netbook with Win7 Ultimate
Well, I had issues when I upgraded to 7.16, so I had to re-install it, and then stopped at 7.15.

Re: Lexia v7.xx on Netbook with Win7 Ultimate
In my experience the 7.58 is the latest stable release, anything beyond it will potentially break, sooner or later, with the only solution of clean installing once again ... as for the Win8 & Win 10, it has been widely reported by other people that the DiagBox works just fine ... which shouldn't come as a surprise, really ... 32bit only of course (x86) ... or 64bit with a virtual machine installed

Re: Lexia v7.xx on Netbook with Win7 Ultimate
I don't think there's really much difference for those stuck on the good ol' yellow and grey lexia app (I doubt the actual application has been updated since the initial 6.x releases). It's mainly Diagbox that would get the updates with the latest cars etc.
Mike, out of curiosity, where are you getting the latest software versions? Auto-professionals (where Simon and I used to grab them from) stopped allowing average-joes to download it without contributing considerably to their forums.

Fair enough. Not met any problems myself yet so I'll consider myself lucky so far. Perhaps the netbook will be a different story. I think I'm just about ready to try the install.Hell Razor5543 wrote:Well, I had issues when I upgraded to 7.16, so I had to re-install it, and then stopped at 7.15.

Yes, similar experience I had. As such, I'll respectfully decline to answer on this public forum, I'll explain in PM instead.Ben82 wrote:Mike, out of curiosity, where are you getting the latest software versions? Re: Lexia v7.xx on Netbook with Win7 Ultimate
Windows 7 fully updated and Lexia updated, finally! Had opportunity for quick test on car and it seemed to work as expected - except the screen size needs re-configuring - otherwise looking good! Well chuffed as the laptop I was using had awful battery life. This netbook is far more efficient on battery power and easier to handle.

There's an ini file that you can change the window dimensions in. Can't remember what they are but should be somewhere in the Lexia threadMikeT wrote:Windows 7 fully updated and Lexia updated, finally!
