most non citroenoeans would have simply scrapped the car, a very unjust thing to do.
Thanks FOWMC, just a full service/mot left now mid October then all's good for winter. Just noticed my earth clamp on battery is loose and I remember tightening it up 2 months ago when I was checking the battery, might have to add some packing (or is that a no no)....

I took mine off, cleaned the chassis contact and reshaped the clamp in the vice, just as quick and a better result.

I need to get myself a vice, it does makes things much easier to handle and you have two free hands to play with whatever you've got in your vice.
Is your vice strapped to a bench or can it be moved about.

I bought a new earth cable online but it was to short to run down to the gearbox so I joined it to another earth cable I got from a scrappy with the join inside a plastic container which now sits on the metal shelf where the abs would normally be mounted beneath the LHM tank.
I am a little more nervous about replacing the positive lead which is firmly held in place with a small nail.
as the clamp is cracked.
Citroen Xantia S2 1.9 TD estate 189K soon to be broken for parts Jan 2017 headlamps & radiator fan assembly already spoken for & A 1987 Citroen 2CV6 special just for fun.
New addition Citroen C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Hatch purchased 09/12/2016 with 83K on the clock.

I was thinking of doing the small nail mod to pack the earth cable round the terminal as it's come loose, need to have a look on wk end. Plenty of Wax like spray on the terminals by Valvoline Tectyl...
