Citroen C5 2004 180bhp remap

Post by v5uk »

Anyone had the 180bhp remap done on a auto?
Are the dumps generic or are they specific to each car?
What did it cost?
Any problems?

Cheers Steve

Be very careful with remaps on an auto car the extra power can kill gearboxes very quickly. I had a Maptun stage 2 remap on my Saab 9-5 and the tune was custom to reduce torque in 1st & 2nd gears to prolong gearbox life.

Bear in mind also that you will have to declare the modification to your insurance company which is likely to increase your premium. Some insurers may not even insure you as you won't fit neatly into one of their "standard boxes" and they always overprice risk....!!!

Unless their assessor plugged in to the car to check, they wouldn't.

I've personally never heard of any insurance company assessor plugging into the car to make an assesment of whether its been modified or not, it just doesn't happen. They'll do a cursory check to make sure the usual things are standard such as suspension, wheels, bodykit etc...everything else they just won't bother with. If anyone knows of someone who didn't have their claim paid out due to a modification, i'd love to hear about it.

It would depend on the accident I expect. In the case of serious injury or a fatality an insurance company might well check very carefully if it could avoid paying hundreds of thousands in compensation to a third party. A minor shunt wouldn't incur any close inspection
I checked up on this before buying a Saab 9-3 with a Hirsch performance upgrade and it doubled the premium. Mind you, that was suspension, engine and lots of other goodies.
My old C5 has 173 BHP already so not an issue for me.
As SaabC5 says, the gearbox might have a shorter life .

Surprised that auto boxes would have shorter life on a tune up.
These gearboxes can take lots more power and torque than a manual box.

A Five speed Aisin is fitted to an array of cars from 150 to 280 bhp. Other boxes are similar. Old Jatco boxes on Patrols had the same box on standard and aftermarket turbo versions. Never heard of any blow up......ever! Even the tuned Rover V8'S used the same ZF box as lesser tuned versions.

IME you will overdo a manual box with increasing power before an auto.

You're probably likely to do the clutch /DMF in before the gearbox maybe.

Highly unlikely that an insurance company would check an ecu, most tuners lock it so access is prevented.
