Citroen c2 showing high revs

hi I have a Citroen c2 that has recently had a gearbox rebuild and new clutch. Since getting it back I've noticed that when driving at 60 mph the Rev counter shows really high revs but it's not actually revving high. I've took the car back to the garage that did the repairs, he test drove it and said the clock is faulty. What do people think. Am I being fobbed off cus they haven't put the cable in properly.

The rev counter runs off the TDC/crankshaft sensor, if this wasn't plugged in correctly the car wouldn't even start.
