C5 Tourer Clutch

I have been told after my latest service that my clutch is nearing its wear limit.
Any advice on this-also if I am to replace should I get the DMF replaced as well?

makes sense to do so, water pump and cam belt kit the same time maybe as well.

How many miles on it ? what engine

1. Ask them how they measured it!
2. Ignore them until it is actually showing some signs of being worn out, eg slip, judder, or noise on take up

If its the original clutch then you'll almost certainly need a DMF as well. Mine was done at 136k and the DMF was mullered and the release bearing was in two pieces when we got the bellhousing off. You can get both on Carparts4less for just over £300, i opted for the LUK kit/DMF but interestingly the friction plate was marked up Valeo which is OE equipment. Its a mission of a job which books at approx 9 hours labour. Anybody who has done a Pug 407 will be familiar with the job however cos they share the same underpinings.

Me being at 136k (kilometers) with my car is slightly worried over this, if and when I get to the point of doing the procedure on the car (pricey, isn't it) ...

Is the clutch actually slipping? If not I wouldn't worry about it, how can they tell the clutch is nearing its wear limit? If its because the clutch pedal is high - they all are. Mine has done 200k+ and is still on the original clutch and DMF.

136km is a long way off 136k miles, don't worry about it just yet.

Reading anything invoving repair costs and a C5 makes me nervous!

I must say Peter, I am back into the way of the manual, after about 5 auto's. Nice light clutch and box the C5.

I know they are ideal for people who drive in the city, but I don't, or at least very rarely. My main dislikes are the increased fuel consumption, the fact that they won't let you drive like you want to, although I believe they have improved in this respect, but the main reason is their relatively short life and the cost of repairs. I have repaired lots of manual boxes although nowadays they usually last the life of the car, but I wouldn't attempt an auto.

Another consideration for people of my age and older is that they are to easy to drive - possibly off a cliff or into a harbour. If your thinking is a bit slow a manual makes you engage your brain before putting the car into gear. :? :shock:
