Change alternator brushes

Post by xf1ref »

Hello to all,
At my xantia 1.8 16v with a.c sometimes the charging voltage is low and I think the brushes are worn.
Can I remove the brushes without removing the alternator? because I think, to do that I have to remove the intake manifold.
Any advice will be useful.

Maybe if you have enough room.

It's a bit of a fiddly pfaff to disassemble the alternator on the bench without it being buried in the car.

Check out this chappie on YouTube - he has lots of neat guide videos on how to mend Valeo alternators.

How's the positive lead from your battery looking? If it's rotten (a known problem) your terminal voltage could appear a bit low...

May not be the brushes could be the regulator. The whole assembly may be removable for the back of the alternator but as mentioned it depends how good or otherwise the access is.

The positive lead from batery was changed and I made measurements directly on the alternator to eliminate any other doubt.
I will try to remove the regulator directly from the car even if I have to dismantle the intake manifold and the oil filter.
Thanks all for advices.. I will come back with news.
