Thanks, picked up some brake caliper paint today in black (could have had yellow, gold, silver etc etc). Will give those a paint when I get a chance next.

On another note when I went to change all the tyres over today to be all on the summer tyres (been rather lazy with that, but at least they'll get some use for a couple of months at least). I spotted that one of my front discs had a chunk missing:

Is that something to be concerned about? It's not on a pad surface, which would be much more of a concern.

That looks like it may have been deliberately machined at the factory as part of the balancing operation.

My discs have the same 'chunk' cutout. Never ever wondered why.

Yes totally normal, I've never thought about why either.
Possibly marks the minimum thickness.

They'd had the wheels off it as there was fresh copper slip on the studs. I spotted the out of line caliper as soon as I'd removed the wheel to swap the pads out, I was just wondering after they quoted £95 for the new rear pads how long it would have been till the phone call saying. "You need a new caliper sir!"

As for the notch in the front disc pictured above, they all have it on the fronts, it's there so the machines at the factory can grip the disc to machine the finished surface.
