Lexia parameters recording
It's a bit dangerous trying to drive and study the live parameters output of the Lexia, besides, it's a lot of data to remember.
I tried recording the screen using a video camera but that didn't work out too well mostly because of light reflection off the screen. I'll try it in the footwell next time but...
I'm also thinking of trying a screen capturing program next but the laptop isn't the fastest of it's creed and the lexia itself seems to lag as it is so wonder if anyone's found a solution that just works as expected?

Try "Camstudio".
It's fairly easy to use and it's free.

Re: Lexia parameters recording
I read such advice from PCadvisor but the comments said it was riddled with malware (more like adware and other such spam-related crap). I've actually used it before but for HiQuality it was useless as it would drop frames. I'm sure it would bring my now-decrepid laptop to it's knees. So wondered if anything better may have superceded it. Camstudio hasn't been updated since 2013.hamster99 wrote:Try "Camstudio".

Does it work on XP? I just made the mistake of installing camstudio and it's causing havoc already. I may be some time....

Re: Lexia parameters recording
If you click the graph, you should get an option for selecting what you want to record (up to 6 i think) and starting and stopping recording, it'll give you an output like the following once complete:
Probably a lot easier to use to gauge than a video of the numbers

Re: Lexia parameters recording
Screen Recorder was also riddled with crap. Took three hours to find and clear the camstudio mess it left only to have to repeat the process. Ended up installing Microsoft's version.
But I like that function Ben. I did start to investigate the "custom" parameters option but felt the limit of six parameters were inadequate and as such, failed to realise it's full potential. I'll revisit that submenu next time, thanks.

Re: Lexia parameters recording
I've not investigated the native Graph replay option yet (not sure if it can be accessed after the session is closed without having to open a new session?) but did get to test Microsoft's recorder offering and recorded a static diagnostic session yesterday. As expected there is some lag at points (presumably where the laptop was overburdened in the processor department) which may or may not prove a problem for accurate reviews.

Re: Lexia parameters recording
That's where I got it from. Firefox blocked the download as possible virus/spyware, had to manually override that little feature to proceed. But just look at the first download, it's for a PUP (potential unwanted program), in this case CNET's downloader which then tries to sneak in another bunch of unwanted programs before installing the actual program you asked for. NOD may not ID them as unwanted, but I sure do. I like to keep a tight ship, not fill it full of parasites.Stickyfinger wrote:Screen Recorder@

Re: Lexia parameters recording
NOD does, and I do as well....there is zero in my download and I do not install CNETs down loader, why would I ?

Re: Lexia parameters recording
It's a common ploy as most people don't bother to read before clicking "next" or "ok". If you're immune, then all's well. I just bypass CNET altogether.Stickyfinger wrote:NOD does, and I do as well....there is zero in my download and I do not install CNETs down loader, why would I ?

Re: Lexia parameters recording
Is this normal or indicative of a slight "leak" that warrants attention? While the EGR throttle (and Inlet air heater) is commanded at 0% the copy position always reports a slight opening, it never shows an equal 0%
I realise it's a miniscule amount (max I've seen is 4.13%) and am not overly concerned.

Re: Lexia parameters recording
Answering my own questions again - I found a recording of the same parameters of a Pug 408 and both EGR and Air Heater copy positions obediently revert to 0% as commanded, which implies mine are not operating as expected.
Today I noticed a different hesitation symptom while the engine was still in the warming up phase; holding just under 2000rpm (for 30mph limit) I got a very uniform on/off power surge similar in frequency to the indicators flashing interval speed. ie, about 2-3hz. Typcially, I didn't have the Lexia monitoring the parameters and don't hold much hope of repeating the symptoms to do so but you never know.
Now, it was posted somewhere else that the EGR should not be operative until the engine has warmed up but what else could cause such symptoms?

Re: Lexia parameters recording
Maybe it's too warm to tell but from cold (ambient) start, I can see my EGR is active. The hot air valve doesn't show any signs of life but once up to temperature, I have observed the cold air valve active.MikeT wrote:...it was posted somewhere else that the EGR should not be operative until the engine has warmed up but what else could cause such symptoms?
Perhaps it would be prudent to remove, inspect and clean all those valves (if present) as a matter of course. I'm thinking intake cleaner would be ok but what about the MAF, will the chemicals damage it? Is it right to presume the turbo could also cause the flatspot/hesitation if it's wastegate or vanes are sticking? Lexia shows it produces over 2000mb so it must be wanting to work ok.
