I am not certain on which type of clutch it is Hydraulic/Cable, but it did seem a lot of fluid to be clutch fluid.
Mileage is 126K and to be fair the tax wasn't that cheap,

Re: C5 III Tourer 1.6HDi starting, wiring, faults
Road tax is £130/£110 PA....can't really see that as expensive for the size of car. Don't know about Airport run type Private Hire Tax.
and in fairness, 126k is a little short but if the car was a town rep car/taxi in the past, not that bad for the engine/car combo
I understand your not happy but the clutch was to to be expected at some time soon wasn't it ?
Have the belts been changed ?, if not these would be due soon as well so do them at the same time and save a little time off the road there.
From what I know the clutch is not a massive problem to change in these and the kits are not badly priced for good quality ones.?
It is a risk we all take on cars of this millage, there but the grace of god and all that
General image (I would need your vin to be accurate)

You want to try taxing a 90HP HDi Xantia! £230! My replacement C5 110HP HDi estate is only £145!

Re: C5 III Tourer 1.6HDi starting, wiring, faults
Ha ha... One of the bolts for the gearbox goes in from the engine side, and is fouled by the stud that holds the DPF on. So the DPF needs to come out so its stud can be removed, which on most cars means draining the coolant and removing the radiatorStickyfinger wrote:From what I know the clutch is not a massive problem to change in these

Re: C5 III Tourer 1.6HDi starting, wiring, faults
ah....did not know that on the x7.....what does the Citroen "Procedure" site say about how to go about it...
Regarding the oil, it is not uncommon that the end seal leaks (a good few reports of that) and kills the clutch that way....it may explain the "oil" the AA man found

Hi, I would also recommend visiting powerenhancer on the net, they do a wonderful fuel system cleaning kit, and fuel additives that work wonders, I know I've used them.

So yep, it's a hydraulically operated clutch.
Ia the reservoir still full or has that level dropped? Does the pedal still feel firm, or soft?

Re: C5 III Tourer 1.6HDi starting, wiring, faults
Hi All
Gearbox out today
Thrustbearing gone (Well most of it!!, still a few bits lurking)
Big hole in gearbox casing just near to the where the driveshafts are (Hence big puddle of gearbox fluid on floor under car when I coasted to a halt)
New clutch has arrived, I will get gearbox tomorrow, appears to be the DM65 (Or 20DM65 as listed almost everywhere)
I'll get one organised tomorrow for a quick rebuild to hopefully be back on the road Thursday night, Friday at the latest and hopefully back working as a taxi on the weekend.
Regards
Mike

Re: C5 III Tourer 1.6HDi starting, wiring, faults
Hi All
Just thought I'd let you know I have a had a successful evening working the Taxi!!!
Garage confirmed yesterday morning that it was in fact a 20DM65 gearbox, so already had several in the "Watching" on eBay
Rang them all, 2 answered the phone, one in Rotherham and the other in Shrewsbury
I plumped for the Shrewsbury one for three reasons, cost, warranty and distance and set off at around Midday yesterday
Back home eating KFC at 8pm (Laguna had an Italian tune up to Shrewsbury and back...Runs really smooth now!! )
Gearbox delivered to the garage this morning and following a drain and re-fill of the remaining gearbox fluid in it it was installed into the C5
Collected at 5pm (Now £675 poorer, although that did include a set of front brake pads!)
Clutch and Solid flywheel was £195 and the Box cost me £130 (Actually plenty about - at good money, Not much demand as pretty reliable box)
Hopefully this will now settle things for a while as I have also managed to get the f**king engine management light to go out as well (Guess a lot of the issues must have been down to the clutch somehow )
Many thanks all for your input
Mike
