Me as well.....

esp as one of the "people" (to protect their ID) at the Citroen BBQ informed me during a conversation about NFP staus , that they had just sent "many" tons of "old stock" to the metal recyclers......

you wait, transfer the stock to the new division, add a heritage stock prefix, charge twice retail than the amount last week when it was not NFP....accountants love stock to increase in retail value but receive a write off in tax value...

Many years ago, when British Leyland were having a clearout of obsolete parts, someone made a mistake and sold 10 containers full of fast-moving stock such as spark plugs, filters, alternators and starters to a scrap dealer for scrap price. They tried to buy it back, but the scrap dealer had 'lost' them. I heard that from the accountant who had to balance the books afterwards.

The Jaguar classic spares program is commercially quite clever...

Jaguar always insisted on ownership of the tooling for all components, and took possession of the tools when production ceased. There are apparently warehouses and yards full of old tooling.

When there is sufficient demand for an obsolete part, they lend the tooling to an outside classic parts vendor (like SNG Barratt or Martin Robey) who take the commercial risk and sell the parts back into the the Jaguar parts chain.

I doubt that Citroen ever owned, or kept, most of the tooling.

With their apparent policy of scrapping old stock, highly unlikely but then, hope springs eternal...

I have very little hope for this

Traction (help not really needed) DS.SM.CX. and 2cv,
Forget the rest, they are either not good memories, laughed at or are "boring" designs, or they so badly (cost) damaged the company (Activa/XM/C6) and are best forgotten for the present.

...you would hope the ultimate sporting development of the hydro-sarcastic suspension system would warrant some level of interest, hell only three Citroen HQ Admin staff had ever heard of an Activa version of the Xantia, the restored 206GTI got far far more attention (it was very nice). Quite a few of the young ones having owned a 206 or wanted one, not many guys "of that age" ever saved up for a Citroen Xantia, followed the Xantia Rally team, tried to make their Xantia/XM sound like the Citroen Formula One engine or put wings on it like the Saloon Car Race team did.

Modern classic Citroen cars do not have the "stock" of younger drivers to enthuse about the marque beyond the classic Ds/Cx/2CV.

A limited collector car = limited market for spares re-manufacture unless at high cost, there will be very few, if any C6 cars in 5 years, even Mk1C5's will be like hens teeth with the Xantia clinging on with creative work on very limited versions and only then if they themselves rise in rarity value to warrant the expense.

There are two stages to the demise of a car design. 10 years Post manufacture but still with good spares direct or remade, popular cars extend this to 15/20 like the Escorts and Mk1 Golf, then the collector market, depends on its size........................... XM/Xantia/C5/C6 forget it there will not be an economical case for it.

ummmm, feeling a little dark today, off to sing the Millwall FC club song to the chickens :) :)

I remember seeing some Xantia (I think) tooling/presses/etc for sale on a commercial auction website about 5-odd years ago. Damn great huge chunks of it. All for scrap :(
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

This of course will be a marketing ploy rather than actual parts backup for older vehicles.
Do not underestimate the public at large and their fondness for autoshite though which is why I think the new man at the top has the right idea.
My experience of public opinion on all things old citroen ive owned is a largely positive. The Activa attracted roughly 0 attention outside of the die hard petrol head, the xantia was a very common car and is not yet old enough. The XM on the other hand, despite its apparent failure and recent production is much loved by all, I took it to a wedding the other day and met 4 people who had one or knew someone who had one back in the day and raved about it, I met another bloke a few weeks back out on a site who's father had one as a company car and was genuinely excited to see it, not a bad turn out since they only sold about 10 of the things. It also draws attention from non car people and petrol heads alike, young and old, quite often get a wave from other classic or exotic drivers and school boys are often nosing around it.

It is odd considering opinions expressed at the time it was on sale were that it was a pile of odball tat made of spit and tissue paper, if old Citroens do have this affect on the general public though it is a powerful marketing tool to be harnessed and its about time PSA started to take advantage of it, roll on pictures of SM's CX's and half tracks in Citroen promo

XM Prestige PRV6 92
Talbot Express Autotrail Chinook 89
Mitsubishi L200 Trojan 14
Xantia Activa 95, sold (missed)

Service Citroen is awesome, it shows me pictures of all the parts i used to be able to buy............

One guy certainly took offence to the story, in the comments...

I'm sort of hoping that this is a 'We're sorry about how crap we've been in the past' acknowledgement. I wouldn't be expecting new Xantia heater hoses just yet, but let's face it - the situation couldn't get any worse could it? The anti-old cars culture is ingrained in the way the company works, and it isn't going to suddenly improve, but I see this as a possible step in the right direction. Maybe. Hopefully.

I should also note that I wrote the story, so thanks for reading :)

Was that just a "Marketing" announcement you received or is there anything solid to show any action otherwise ?

Sounds like someone got hit with the No-Stock-Sir bat :)
