OK, time for a (complicated) update.

First, the good news. She passed her MoT with only one advisory (nearside rear tyre has a worn outer shoulder (caused, I know, by reversing into my driveway, where I have to clip the kerb)).

Now the bad news. She has several issues, none of which have helped us (PTS Developments and myself) to track them down, as, on all but one, we don't get clear information. They are as follows;

1, Occasionally she will pop up an Anti Pollution error. I can cause this to happen by slowing down fairly hard from speed (say, 60MPH) and change down quickly through the gears. The two codes that appear to be related to this are P0100 and P0400. She will not turn off the EML until I clear these codes, but they will then stay cleared unless I repeat the heavy braking/downshifting.

2, She will give me reduced power (limited to 3,000RPM) when she has warmed up a bit, but she may also return to full RPMs. If it is cold (and I haven't driven for a day or so) I can take her over 4,000RPM, but then, without warning (and for no reason I can determine) she will restrict her RPMs.

3, The turbocharger only works occasionally. She will accelerate (but not briskly), although on a few occasions she has woken up the turbocharger and I then have had wheel spin from the lights!. I did see an error code (P0234) that related to the turbocharger on one (but only one) Lexia scan.

PTS have tried various things to see if they can track down these issues. The MAF has been swapped (OEM and pattern), with no change. The exhaust has been dropped (and the pipework from after the MAF had been disconnected), with no change to the engine performance. They have found that, at idle, the air flow is right, but under load the air flow DROPS (I cannot remember the numbers they mentioned). It seems that she is being starved of air when she needs it.

I have yet to get underneath her, but I want to see if the turbocharger has stuck gubbins. Whenever I hook up the Lexia I am noting down the mileage and the P codes.

Any suggestions, anybody?

I'm thinking EGR initially, James due to the MAF reading and first two fault codes.
You might also have sticky turbo vanes or control valve but I'd concentrate on the EGR first as it can also affect turbo performance.

The EGR and its' electrovalve have been replaced, Mike. The EGR had a leaky diaphragm, and its electrovalve had a dead short.

James, this thread from Honest John explores some of the issues you are having, and surprisingly eventually does come up with an answer.............a split in a rubber pipe. Thats not before independants and main dealers ran up a few blind alleys and did a few as it turned out unnecesary and innefective replacements.

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post ... tm?t=44055

the most sage bit of advice given in the thread turned out to be
suggest to them that they visually check every inch of the
hoses from the turbo's wastegate up to the solenoid valve and
all hoses from that valve back to their source

Something unrelated, but I would still try to track down, is that she does not 'see' the redundant brake pedal switch change state. It is NOT the switch (a new switch has the same response), and the switch is getting power and passing it out. However, even with the switch free of the pedal, the Lexia does not see that switch change state (the main brake pedal switch and the clutch pedal switch are working). What I want to do, when I can, is to check the continuity between the switch and the injector ECU (a friend of Marc from PTS (who works for Citroen) says it connects to the ECU). Would it be possible for a Moderator (probably Marc :D ) to post up the wiring diagram so I can trace the circuit?

I will now look at the vacuum pipework, to see if I can spot anything, so thanks for that set of suggestions.

I suspect I already know the answer to this question (based on what I saw on docbackup), but does anybody know if the short length of wiring for the tailgate glass on a C5 Mk1 estate can be replaced? It is damaged on mine, too close to the glass end to be repaired, and a close look at where the wiring goes into the metal plate hints that it MIGHT be possible for it to be removed and replaced.

I think that the turbo issues might be down to a clogged (not completely blocked) intercooler. If I am sensitive with the throttle I can find the sweet spot where I will have more acceleration, and then, sometimes, she will bring the turbocharger back into the loop (this can happen regardless of whether she has restricted performance or not). However, if I floor the accelerator she will bog down, not let the turbocharger work, and (if she is not already in it) quickly go into restricted performance. I may be able to get the intercooler off tomorrow (depending on other, unrelated issues) and take it around to a friend to try cleaning it out.

Re: My turn for a C5!

Can anybody explain how to remove the rear trim to allow me to replace the nearside rear safety belt reel? We had my Mums' new dog in the back, and while I was away he got his harness tangled up and panicked. Trying to get free he bit the safety belt hard in two places, and he has SHARP teeth. This belt is now an MoT failure.

Thanks.

You need to take off the rear parcel shelf, then the rear quarterlight window surround.
Seat Belt.PNG
Remove bolt (3)
The nut (1)
Then remove Remove the seat belt and the inertia reel ( 2).
When Refitting

Proceed in the reverse order to removal.
Tightening torque:
bolts (3) : 3.5 ± 0.7 daNm
(1) nut : 3.5 ± 0.7 daNm

Standard trim removal tools James - this is all I have:
Seat Belt B.PNG
Check the presence of the plastic clip ( 35) and of the metal clips (34) on the quarter panel trim (14).

When clipping in the quarter panel trim ( 14) ensure that the plastic lug "f" enters the hole "e" in the quarter panel inner panel.

Thanks Marc, a friend of mine who works on cars (a LOT more than I do) has the tools, and has said he will help. These images should help.

Totally unrelated issue. My C5 is not detecting the window control modules properly. The windows do go up and down properly, but when I run a global diagnostics I get "?" against both the driver door module and the passenger door module. When I go further in, and try to identify the modules I get a 'failed communication' message (next time I am in there I will get more information). As I said, the windows work properly (normal and anti-pinch functions). What I think I need to do is to 'tell' my C5 exactly what make/model the modules are. Is there a process that I can follow to do this? I believe that this will have to be done via the BSI menu, but I am wary of meandering through there, in case I brick anything.

They are self identifying James - there is no configuration for these - they are specific modules based on vehicle options. The question marks are down to the Lexia either not being able to communicate with the unit (CAN issue with the C5 on an older interface) or the software needs updating as it doesn't recognise the ECU - which I doubt as I think you have at least V7.02 which will cover this year.

If you upgraded your software recently, (as for example when you were working on an X7), then you may need to revert back to say 7.02 - which will install an earlier firmware version onto the interface.

DB 7.02 needs 4.3.0
DB 7.57 needs 4.3.2 up until DB 7.62 which requires 4.3.3

So a few things to consider.
