Great, thank you gents. Tesco will get a visit tomorrow.

By the way, if anybody is interested, Asda have a few Rain X products for sale. This include Rain X, Anti Fog (for the inside of the glass) (these 2 items are £5 each, but occasionally they have these two in a kit for £7), windscreen repair kit and headlight refurb kit (£15 each).

Well, neither Tesco or Halfords has a Dry Lube silicone spray, but ScrewFix did. The drivers safety belt has gone from a snails pace to that of a fast earthworm (who has found they are above ground at dawn!), which is much better. This is what I got hold of;

http://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-sili ... tid=136747

Now, two more things. First, how easy is it to find if I have the required switch on the brake pedal to allow me to add cruise control? Second, does anybody want a couple of Xsara rubber front mats (the C5 came with them, they were the wrong shape, so now I have got some proper C5 mats, edged in blue, that look a lot nicer)?

hi James..
I think you will either have
a single switch with two wires..
2 switches both with two wires
or a single switch with 4..
the latter two scenarios should allow cruise..
I am struggling to remember is this is correct.. others will know more..

on mine I had the single switch and so I got hold of the other switch from the donor car, added that and all was working.. I may have activated in lexia as well.. and I think there are a possible 2 places in there..

look under passenger feet area for the switch (es)

Thanks John. I am aware that I will need to tell her about cruise control once I have fitted the stalk (which I already have sitting to one side), but I wasn't sure about the switch. I knew there were different scenarios, just not where to look. I will check now, on the way out to the shops.

Good news. She has the 4 wire single switch option, which means that I should be able to fit cruise control. I believe I just fit the stalk, and then (using my Lexia) go into the BSi and Injection menus, and enable cruise control there. If I am wrong can somebody let me know. Thanks.

I got the cowling off the same car I got the stalk from, and it has that cut-out. I know what I am like when I cut things. At school, I could turn a piece of wood into sawdust faster than anybody else, but there was nothing to show for it (other than the sawdust)!

Right, well, my C5 is now good for another year. There was an issue with the headlights (O/S had poor patterning, due to cloudiness), but the place dealt with that (although they are not great, but they are now legal). Total cost (including MoT) was £85. Only needed one pass for the emissions test (fast run down the A329M made sure to clear her throat), and the MoT guy said she was a nice car. Time to give her cruise control!

Thanks for that, Iain. How do I then 'write' to the ECU? I have not had to do so before.

It's one of the buttons on the right hand side. I forget which, off the top of my head... 8-[

Well, my C5 now remembers she has cruise control. Iain, once it has been switched from 'absent' to 'present', and it has gone back to the full 'options' type screen, clicking on the F1 'Configuration' button at the bottom left of the screen then starts the save process. You are told to turn off the ignition for 20 seconds, and then, after 20 seconds has expired you will be told to turn it back on again. Job done.

I will, however, have to use the EGR cleaning spray again. About a fortnight ago the EML came back on, with the Anti Pollution Fault message in the main display. I used the spray, which may have worked, but it also (at that time) dropped her into limp mode. One Lexia session later sorted that out, but today the Anti Pollution Fault came back. I have cleared it at the same time as configuring cruise control, but I would like to sort it out properly.

Does anybody have any photos showing the mechanical configuration for the rear height sensor? I have just had the radius arm bearings done, and the garage then had a problem with the rear suspension at full height, and not coming down. Not long after the O/S/R cylinder started spraying LDS between it and the sphere. The garage has acknowledged that there was nothing wrong with the suspension when I brought her in.
