Any advise welcome C5 1.6hdi Timing belt change +

Post by Rochy101 »

I am doing the timing belt, Aux belt, Air +Oil change and front brakes. My biggest concern is the timing belt and it's not my first belt change but it is on a Citroen. It is a 2005 C5 1.6hdi Estate. I was wondering would it be better if i raised up the suspension 1 level would this help.
Thanks in advance

Yes raise it up. You will also need to support the engine from under neath as the top engine mount needs to come off

A tip. The Cam.. pump and crank are all pinned with timing rods! Do the water pump too. Its not a hard belt to change. They are twin cam but only one pully is belt driven so makes it easyer to do.

It's pretty easy going, and as the engine is pretty compact, there should be plenty of room - especially in the carvernous C5 engine bay!!

If fitted with a stretch aux belt (probably not on a C5) get yourself the proper tool to refit it. Do NOT allow the engine to turn backwards - it can lift the exhaust cam chain off and ruin your day spectacularly #-o

Well It was a doddle. I basically done the job in 12hrs as i had to order some special keys for the engine mount, I changed the timing and aux belt - water pump and then done the engine rad and water flush , oil air filters air con and changed the front brakes and disc's at the same time. Ive never had so much fun. It now runs a dream and Im getting a very good mpg. Cheers for all help and advise.
