remapping the Hdi 100
Hi all,
I'm just toying with the idea of a remap, probably won't do it as there's still a few issues I want to sort out first.
I've had a look at a remap site and it seems one can squeeze ~160BHP out of the Hdi 110 unit (really?). So my concern is the auto box, as I understand it's limited to 210Nm? It's not much is it. What is the limiting factor there? Is it the cooling of the oil or something mechanical?
How would I go about remapping the ECU myself. I've read you can just hook up a chip reader to it, extract the map, tweak it and then reupload it. What kit woould I need?
Again, just toying with the idea, probably won't have the patience, time of money in the end, but the education would be great. Thanks

Re: remapping the Hdi 100
Don't know about the remap.......but I would look at a full oil change/filter on the box and certainly an added oil cooler (as the caravan boys do) or an upgrade to it if you are "pushing" the box.
The trouble is with these remaps (the MAXED one's) is they tend to narrow the performance to a very small rev band making the car unpleasant to drive in normal traffic.

I can imagine! Especially in a diesel right! But fun on a track right. I can see a list of things to do: decat and freeflow exhaust. egr delete, bigger intercooler, performance filter, new oil for engine, and new oil for the box, make sure no faults exist on all systems, VTS drivetrain and suspension and brake upgrades, it just goes on and on doesn't it.

Re: remapping the Hdi 100
I think for tuning you chosen the wrong gearbox.. its easy enough to kill an auto box and its not the easyest of auto box to change the fluid and i think a lexia is needed to reset the oil counter when you do it.. (i could be wrong there though) theres no direct oil filler either.. you need to fill it through the breather

I believe so yes Paul. Manual would have been better but it does beg the question as to why drag cars (in general) are automatic?
How do they die? Is it just the heat? Or mechanical stress? Even the 4HP20 for the V6 is limited to 330Nm.
I've already reset the oil counter so you were right there (i haven't changed the oil yet, will it be sharper to take off (from first) with new oil?)

Like an engine.you dont change the oil the engine wears out faster! Same in a gearbox.
Id say so anyway..

Re: remapping the Hdi 100
You will also need to update the fuel pump or at least massively up the pump rate, over boost limits will be a pain with that engine without £££ on a custom remap/new turbo/intercooler

Re: remapping the Hdi 100
Drag racers use automatic transmissions because they con't want the human reaction time of manually changing gears. They use heavily modified automatic transmissions.dei9 wrote:I believe so yes Paul. Automatic transmissions when overloaded generally die because of burning of the friction material in the plates/bands of the clutches because the surface area/pressure are not great enough, I have seen a transmission of a large V8 car with smoke billowing out of the breather and filler tubes after it attempted to reverse a heavy trailer uphill with the over-run brakes on.
With serious overload, the torque converter vanes flex and hit each other, causing a sudden catastrophic failure.

Re: remapping the Hdi 100
All said and done, Acceleration from standstill will never be great in a Citroen, its too heavy.
Now get a oiler to give loads of torque is relatively quite cheap with scrap yards full of larger unwanted items, but handling and breaking will be more productive for lap times, remember it is a bit of an heavy old a brick to get round tight corners at speed..... 406 coupes can donate some good stuff like brembos

I'm talking the Xsara here, not the Xantia, surely it's not that heavy.

Re: remapping the Hdi 100
yea, there's quite a difference in the feel of them, but the Xantia is definitely better built, going back to the Xantia to move it yesterday was like going into a tank, it started first time, and drove smoother (power delivery), where as the xsara is like an angry wasp in comparison, I've never seen a automatic car that can wheelspin as easily as the xsara!

Re: remapping the Hdi 100
With the torque from the oiler and being an Auto, I would Up the wheel size and make it a long legged constant high speed machine and race your lap times rather than the other cars.
Don't mess with those Messerschmidt and Spitfires at the corners, climb and use your top speed....feel the need for (top) speed (and stopping QUICK)

I ordered a remap for my hdi 90 and I am very satisfied with the results. If I buy a hdi 110 in the future then the first thing I will do is the remapping.
