air bag - clock spring switch - V6 Xantia.
Anyone have a wiring diagram for the Xantia 2 airbag control; particularly the wiring from ECU to dash light. Also - I've taken the clock spring out and had it checked - sure enough the unit is faulty and probably why diagnostic points to 161 driver airbag squib - the dash light continually blinks. Interestingly for me the sparky who tested the thing thought that a 3.3 Ohm (VOLT?) resistor plugged in to the cable at the join at the end of the wheel cable should sort the flasher if a replacement clock spring switch is not forthcoming. Local stealership quoted $640 for a replacement

Whilst the resistor will 'fix' the light, it will render the air bag inoperative....
What date is your Xantia? I have a connector for a late Xantia that was working OK when I took it off.

Not all MK2s are equal in the rotary connector stakes though - there was a change around 2000 (before this they used the same one as MK1s). With the RP no we can check which type is required for the OP's car

the part number is:
4112X7 (from about 1996) until RP8211
4112CP from RP8211 until RP8483
4112EC from RP8484
The price (if obtainable from citroen) should be about £150. Try phoning another dealer with the applicable part number.

I was thinking about "what if" the resistor went in between the ecu (center unit near gear selector?) and dash, thats why the wiring diag would be good...deals with signal but doesn't effect bags.RichardW wrote:Whilst the resistor will 'fix' the light, it will render the air bag inoperative....

You cant have the resistor and an operative airbag in the circuit, it is one or the other. Did you work out which variant of connector you have?Moss wrote:I was thinking about "what if" the resistor went in between the ecu (center unit near gear selector?) and dash, thats why the wiring diag would be good...deals with signal but doesn't effect bags.RichardW wrote:Whilst the resistor will 'fix' the light, it will render the air bag inoperative....

Moss
If you post up the last 8 digits of the car's VIN I can check the Citroen part number fitted. I will have a look this evening and see what numbers are on the one I have.

For the record, the numbers on the label of a 4112X7 are: 61620004F and 9627442580.

You've nothing to lose by attempting to repair the 'spring'. Suitable ribbon cable is easily obtained, if that's the problem.

Where can you buy suitable ribbon? It is nothing like standard computer ribbon, which would last about 2 minutes before tangling.

Snap well actually mine is 9639552580 but I suspect that is a typo from yours?Moss wrote:Thanks for your help fellas, the only part number I can access is on the Actual clockspring.,..9639552380. - There is a number above that, 61620014
Mine was late 2000 - it was working OK when I took it off, but it has run 160k. PM me if you're interested in it.
