No Combustion

Post by paulc »

Hi Guys,
I hope someone can help me, this problem is driving me crazy.
My fanbelt (the one attached to the alternator) snapped, I replaced it, but now have no combustion. I dont know if the 2 faults are related or not. The plugs are sparking and petrol is going into the combustion chambers, but not igniting. I removed a plug and left the HT lead near to the plug hole (for want of a better word) and when I turned the engine over, the escaping petrol vapour ignited, so why wont it ignite with the chamber?
Any help would be appreciated.

What car / engine are we talking about?
it is not unkown on modern cars with serpentine drive belts that if it breaks it can get inside the cambelt cover and pull the cambelt off the drive sprocket. As you seem to have spark and fuel my next move would be to check the condition of the cambelt and to check the timing of the camshaft.

Thanks for the reply, The Cambelt is intact and looks OK, but I will deffinately see if the timing has been knocked out.
The car is a 1 ltr Citroen AX, an old car but it has served me well over the years.
Thanx
