hdi 110 starter motor comparability

Hi all, looking to replace the starter motor of my newly acquired xsara, it seems to miss intermittently, I guess it will get worse. Can I use a starter motor from any Hdi engine? such as a Picasso hdi? or a xantia or something?

Any starter from any of the 1.9 diesels. The XUD7 1769cc diesel. The 2.0 HDI 8 valve and al least some of the 2.0 HDI 16 valve. The starters are different but they all fit. Even though the pinions have different numbers of teeth the pitch remains the same and they all end up appropriately spaced from the ring gear. This gives a range from the Talbot Horizon to the Citroen C8.
The 1.4 and 1.6hdi engines share starters but they are different to all the above.
