Xsara spec differences

Post by dei9 »

Hi again all,
So with my upcoming purchase of a Xsara Hdi Auto LX, I'd like to know what was in the SX or the VTS? I'm interested in doing some easy upgrades (but not aftermarket stuff). I know the VTS usually handles like glue and the SX has higher interior spec. So what could be changed? I can't find any resources with the differences. Thanks all.

Why dont you just find the right car in the first place...

Interior upgrades may not be a matter of fit it and go... though im no expert on xsara phase 2s. I completely avoided them.

I have found the right car... or as close to one as possible (that has FSH, and a working auto box). I couldn't find a 2.0Hdi Xsara auto SX or Exclusive (VTS comes in petrol right), VTR maybe just body upgrades, but I'm sure the VTS has thicker anti-roll bars, etc. SX may have rear electric windows etc. I just asked the question.

Ah ok.. sorry. Citroens badge spec levels got more complex after 2000... i think lx and sx was replaced by vts and vtr.. and vts and vtr being completely different to those used on saxos!

Maybe try finding a reg for one of each dei. Can search for parts on gsf etc then and see if any have different part numbers. Its how I check if bits are interchangeable between my hatch and estate.

Erm not quite, VTR was only available with the 90bhp hdi engine & the 1.8i petrol, the vts was the 110 hdi engine with the petrol being the 2.0 16v 167bhp. Creature comforts were different, a/c for the slightly lower spec & climate & cruise control for the higher specs, leather may have been standard on the VTS's depending upon year. If i'm way off i stand corrected.

The C5 range was as per citroenxm's comments, phase 2 i believe?

Mine is an LX. I wonder if I have cruise control (didn't really notice or check)? I have climate control (well, an auto setting on the fan). Didn't mean to check. It doesn't have rear leccy windows. It has AC too, always nice to have.

My knowledge is limited to phase two models (post 2000ish). Even the SX doesn't have cruise control as standard, it was an optional extra. They all have climate control (ie thermostatic temperature control) The obvious difference from the LX/SX to the VTR is the VTR is a 3 door (coupe).

Compared to the LX Hdi, as standard the SX Hdi has a bigger central display, is only available with the 110 engine, has 2 electric mirrors, rear electric windows, alloy wheels, an alarm, 2 remote keyfobs, front fogs (although the LX also got these for the last few months of production), a boot net, auto lights and wipers, CD multichanger, posher plastic trim below the radio. shinier gear knob.

I'll think of some more soon.

auto lights and wipers would be a cool upgrade i'd like, alloys will probably come at some point too, but no rush, i don't look at my wheels from inside the car so i don't care too much,i assume other people don't care what wheels i have on my car either. rear leccy windows would be nice to have too, leccy mirrors too

what's the bigger central display about? does it show more information such as mpg, etc? i wouldn't mind that kind of info

as far as i know, mine is a phase 2 but before the electrical systems changes, and i've read that i cannot just plug n play cruise control, but on the later ones it's possible, unless it's the other way round

anyway, at the moment it's all talk, i may never get round to it any time soon anyway, but it'll be nice to have some easy upgrades

lol, haven't even got the car yet!
