HDi High Pressure Fuel Pumps?

Post by IanD »

Hi All,
New to the forum, looks good[8D]
I'm considering buying a Xsara HDi with fairly high miles (80-100k) but with FSH soon but I have heard of the High Pressure Fuel Pump's failing & costing an arm & a leg to fix [:(]
How often does this happen & what sort of money are you looking at if it does fail? Would I be better off going for one of the early non-HDi models instead if I'm looking for cheap reliable motoring?
Cheers,
Ian

If you're looking for cheap and reliable motoring from a diesel, then buy one with a mechanical fuel injection, preferably with a Bosch pump. They really go on for ever (my '93 XM TD12 has covered over 500 000 km on the original Bosch injection pump). The same applies to the rest of the engine (the 2.1 liter with 12 valves)!

The design life of the Bosch pump is supposedly only 350k miles...

Don't say it too loud - my XM might be listening!
