Xantia Estate Rear Doors not opening

Hi All,
I posted on here a 3 months ago or so when I first bought my 1996 Xantia TD Estate. Ive done 10,000 trouble free miles in it, but the rear doors seem to have a mind of their own. Sometimes they open ok, sometimes the both dont open and sometimes one or other opens. Its like they are locked, when in fact should be unlocked....pull the handle and door doesntopen, just as though its locked......
Any advice on what this might be?

when you say they do not open, are they still locked or unlocked.
if locked it could be a bad conection or water in the solinoid.

They appear as if theyre locked, but they shouldnt be - ie when you operate the cetnral locking to open the car in the morning....they wont open....in effect remaining locked. The button inside the car doors also wont operate up and down (impoosible to push or pull).....sometimes I hear an electrical component struggling in the rear doors when its locked and the alarm is activated.....i assume its somthing to do with the solenoid failing to activate the central locking mech....
