Had tyre changed now getting a catching noise

Post by ej2095 »

Very odd if i sit idle the sounds gone.
When i drive its like something is catching on the wheel.

Had two tyres changed on the passenger side but i seem to remember one of the alloys had then balance weights on the inside on one of them.

Feeling the front wheel and the gap between that and the bit thats on teh car is very little..

Wondering if the weight is catching as the guy did take both wheels off at the same time.... (And prolly got the two mixed up)

Also its a 2.2 HDI and looks like needs a new silencer as mines rusting.. best place to get one and are they easy to fit?

If he changed the tyres he would have (should have) re-balanced the wheels so makes no difference which he fitted where. It is possible that a poorly located weight might catch on something but it's also possible that one of the pad wear wires is touching so needs looking at

Can't help with the exhaust info.

Jack her up and rotate them by hand, see if you can hear it better.

Could be tyre noise, what tyres were fitted?

I did mine on my 2.2 MkI a couple of years ago, rear box can be bought on eBay for £40 delivered from Germany. Get a new clamp while your at it, mine was so corroded it exploded as soon as i put a wrench on it. It's literally a clamp and a coupe of rubber hangers, dead easy if its off the ground on a 4 post lift, bit more difficult if its on the ground but please use axle stands for safety purposes. I
