Hi, i have a problem with leaking rear shock on my xantia. The oil is filling the rubber sleeve that goes on the shock, and overflowing form the plastic black pipe underneath the car. First i changed the rubber seal that goes around the piston on the shock, for secondhand one that didn't leak. Had no luck. Than i got whole different shock also secondhand, that wasn't leaking also. Still have the same problem. So is there any other reason that the shock is leaking, besides bad rubber seal. Maybe blocked returning line from the shock?
P.s. am using the secondhand parts because the new rubber seals are almost impossible to find where am from, and they are cheaper too.

Re: Xantia rear shock lhm leak
I'd suspect a blocked or kinked return line.
The rams are supposed to leak, hence the return line. It looks as though the LHM could be coming out of the breather rather than being returned to the reservoir.
Either that or the return line is disconnected at the joint above the sub frame.

Re: Xantia rear shock lhm leak
there should not be much if any citro blood ( LHM ) in the rubber boot, as the plastic return pipe is just a seepage return to catch any citro blood getting past the pressure seal around the piston inside the cylinder,
if you send me the last 8 digits of your chassis/VIN No. i will check/get you the OE price and part No.'s for the piston seals,
it is quite unusual for the ram seals to allow the system pressure into the rubber gaiter, although as XANT's get older it is possible,

The rear cylinders are below the level of the tank, so over a period of time, how do they not become full of LHM?citronut wrote:there should not be much if any citro blood ( LHM ) in the rubber boot, as the plastic return pipe is just a seepage return to catch any citro blood getting past the pressure seal around the piston inside the cylinder

Re: Xantia rear shock lhm leak
all the seepage returns work under capillary action,
when all the main pressure seals in the hydraulic components are all holding there pressure, there should be little or no citro blood in these lines
