Vaguely. I wasn't quite so precise, but a length of the cable was exposed between the arm (by design i think?) So i lubed that up

Well she's got a self-adjusting clutch cable that has not self-adjusted

The travel on the pedal is 12.5cm at the moment.

Would it be best to replace the cable, and if so can I replace with a manual adjust one? Or is there a trick to making the stupid thing adjust itself?
The cable was replaced about 11 years ago, but having read loads of threads it may have been the clip that packed up (in the middle of Bristol at traffic lights - great fun!!) and the garage may only have replaced that part, so this could be the original cable!!!

I'm not a happy bunny at the moment

The clip is a plastic part that can be bought separately. It connects the cable to the pedal, and should come with a metal part to hold the cable and clip together. The original one was black (and was flawed, so it did fail quite easily), the replacement is cream, and is much stronger and should still be available from Citroen. If the clip has failed the pedal will go to the floor, as it is not longer connected to the clutch. However, if the cable has failed you may want to shop around for the replacement. One from Citroen was over £40 (Christmas, 2013), but the one from GSF was under £22.

Hi James,
No it's not the clip this time, but may have been 11 years ago.

A replacement cable will have to be done by the local garage so goodness knows what that will cost since they'll have to get one for RHD. They are quite happy to use parts I supply though, so the question is can I change from the self-adjusting to the manual adjusting cable?

2 cables identified on Citroen Service,
Cable 2150 X7 Long 1585 NFP
Cable Right 96137579 Long 1614 NFP

the 2nd one appears to be for RHD
So I'm thinking that I can't change to a manual adjust one.

Will I damage the clutch driving her with the pedal travel at 12.5cm?

All answers greatly appreciated :-D

I cannot say if you can switch between the type of cables. I have looked on GSF, and the one that would fit Gracie is £32. The image is wrong, but I used her reg to find it.

I hope it helps. I cannot offer advise on the travel (as Gracies' cable had snapped).

As long as your clutch fully engages and disengages I don't think you'll cause damage.
I would drive it if it were mine albeit gently until repaired.

Thanks for the info, James x2
Checked GSF and they don't have the correct cable for Snoopy. Not many at all on the internet!!

Will check with the local garage tomorrow to see if they can get one, probably won't be much difference in cost by the time I add postage from the UK.

Fingers crossed!!!

So what's the difference between the two cables on Service Citroen, the 96137579 when searched for on the internet states it is only for RHDs, so I thought that would be the one? The diagrams on Service Citroen are the same and both show manual adjust cables. The Citroen garage here quoted for the 2150 X7 (74.72 Euros - ouch!!). From photos I think the 2150 X7 is auto-adjust, so is the other one manual? Or am I totally wrong?!? Would prefer a manual adjust one out of choice, if there is a choice.

I'm soooo confused!!!!

And corresponds to the change over to auto adjust I am pretty sure. The spring on the pedal changed from one around the bolt (which pushes down only) to a vertical one (which has a sort of over-centre action and pulls at the top of the stroke and pushes at the bottom!) at the same time. There's an OE cable on e-bay at the moment, doubt postage to France will be extortionate: 2150.X7 you can see the auto adjuster in the cable, top centre of the pic.

Ah, this is making more sense now, thank you.

Richard - she has a vertical spring so the 2150.X7 is the correct part - she was manufactured 06/05/1997.

Xantia_v6 - can I ask where on Service Citroen you found out about the date 03/03/1997 please, I'm just wondering if I'm not aware of some vital bit of the site that would be of use for future reference?

Thanks again,
Juliet

log into service.citroen, go into the spare parts section for your car, then enter the part number in the search box.

If you have entered your VIN, it should only show parts that could have been fitted to your car.

Got it! The date doesn't appear if I input the VIN, but does if I search by model etc.. Thank you. This will be very useful when there are two parts listed like with the cable.

Well the local garage is going to do the cable (cost ok with the favourable exchange rate at the moment) but they warned it may make no difference to the heaviness of the clutch, they were very honest about it. So if it doesn't help look out for Snoopy for sale!!! However, I will probably 'convince' myself it is better even if it's not because I have no wish to sell her - I'm very attached to Snoopy (named her on the test drive before I bought her) :-D

Can't get the clutch cable in France anywhere!!!

Tried to buy the one Richard W linked to on Ebay. Phoned them to check postage costs and they wanted to confirm the part was correct with the last 8 digits of the VIN. At this point I was told that my car was manufactured in 1990 (difficult since production only started in 1993), I said that the car was manufactured in May 1997 as per the RPO number and that the correct part number was 2150X7 as per Service Citroen, I was told I was wrong, there were 2 possible parts, I replied that if they put the part number 2150x7 in the search box it would show the cable was fitted to vehicles from the date 03/03/97. The man then told me that he knew how to use Service Citroen and that there were two possible parts and I would have to go and measure the length of the cable, but in any case they didn't have either part in stock!!!!!! - I was looking at their Ebay listing for part 2150x7 (2 available) while this was said, I pointed this out but got no answer. SO BE WARNED ABOUT THIS COMPANY!!!

Would a third party cable be a bad move?
