Sorry for being so late to update this and answer questions, car was lended to my daughter's godfather for about 2 months, so didn't have a chance to check on the issues.

1) Licence plate lights needed to be CAN-bus, and this sorted the flickering issue. Since I was already in the shop, installed similar CAN-bus leds to all interior light-domes. From what I can gather, C5 does not actually require CAN-bus LEDs, but it certainly helps when one or two of the bulbs turn to LEDs ;)

2) As for the side mirrors, I think this is a whole new ballgame, the only option is to buy original Citroen mirrors, and the only way that these will work properly is if all the necessary wiring is present and BSI is programmed correctly. Seems like an awfull lot of work and tinkering, and the end result is not 100% quaranteed it'll work. The interior mirror is much, much simpler, it's as close to plug-n-play as you can get.

3) As for the "how-to", it's really so simple you don't actually need any car-related experience to install this. Mirror snaps onto the original bracket which is glued to the windshield (that's why its crucial you order the correct bracket), camera snaps into one of the licence plate-lights holes, and the wiring goes underneath the carpet beneath the bonnet, into the passenger area through the hole for the bonnet hinge, underneath the rubber edge insulator on the sills (or on the corresponding rubber on the roof edge) and into the roof console, where you can also get the necessary switched +12V. Please note that, for 100% correct operation, you need both the video cable and the reverse-light signal cable to run from the trunk to the mirror. All in all, about 30 minutes of work if you are somewhat familiar with basic tools and simple electrical connections.

chaps.. drifting slightly off this topic..

is there a way I can use a camera for my x7, into the main lcd screen, for keeping 'an eye' on towing or roofbar items? I tried tonight with a camera into the Aux, worked really well until I hit the massive 6 kmh limit..
I can do without but I get a bit paranoid with the old boat behind or windsurfers on the roof.. silly I know..

I have plenty of cameras, one wireless..

There is a wiring block harness you can buy John, that will 'bypass' the speed limitation - it replaces the existing one and allows the same funtionality of your steering wheel controls etc., but lets you having moving pictures for the DVD or a camera etc. Not sure how you stand legally though - as it could be deemed a driver distraction...

Here's the links anyway John

or another one on the Bay:

ouch expensive! :) think the boat can fall off :P
many thanks Marc..

I know some motorhome folks run a camera as a rear view mirror as they have no rear screen (or it is too far away!)
interesting point about the loor though..

OK, if you have a wireless camera already, what about finding one of those portable DVD players with an AUX input. You could run the DVD player off the 12V supply. Just a thought...

grrrrrrr ;)

I have a fancy pants screen and all these inputs into the car!
I will just be as careful as usual about securing my load I think. and stop a lot...
I see so many travelling at 80 -90 with bikes hanging off the back and so on, scares me! straps flapping..

It is ok to have a map, a moving image.. but not a moving image.. completely understand about in-car distraction with this X7 though.. I stare at the fixed hub steering still, after 5 months, to press a button..

hi SF
I mostly understood that ;)
you are saying buy a go pro and watch its output on my phone?

I suspect my post may have been mis communicated (which is normal)

'Can I use the fancy screen in my c5 to view a remote camera while on the move?'* may have been a more succinct start... been a long and trying day somehow

*I was hoping the DVD would be banned but I could have used the AUX in without the car noticing ;)

sorry..

Going back to that Video in Motion cable John - it can be easily disabled using a shortcut combo from the steering wheel controls when you don't need it (or just change the source back to Navigation or Radio etc.) I was (am still) considering it on mine. I suppose you could activate it for a check and then switch the source back. They were a lot more a while back, so I'm toying with the idea of spending £80 (although that's still a lot for a few wires)!

I guess the trick is to use it for checking occasionally and not to have it on constantly to avoid the distraction. :-D
