They look like a rubber "spring" thing.

That should have all the info you need. Yes, they are a main dealer part but they are not expensive.

Dealer part.
Official Citroen name "Rebound Block". Citroen Service quote part number for a pair 5166-65 (0000516655) £18.28.
However for a single one 5166-42 (0000516642) £8.94 all inc vat, so it seems cheaper to buy two singles.

If they were on back order, maybe you had Witchetty grubs fitted and they got fed up with being banged on the head so decided to leave.

As the man says push and twist into location on the sub frame.
If it can happen it will.

Hi Sticky,

My 4 year old grand daughter was most impressed with the picture of your Witchetty Grub and is keeping a copy in her scrap book - takes all sorts.

Andy.

Hi Andy
Ref. my bump stops, I ordered 2 from a Citroen main dealer using the part no. you gave me and emailed them the photos, he quoted me £8.64 each but when they arrived from Citroen they looked nothing like the bump stops in the pictures so he re-ordered them and they have come in as per the picture, he says the part no. is 516655 and the price has jumped up to £36.55 the pair, something doesn't seem right and as I live in France I don't want to get the wrong ones picked up and brought over by a friend, he wont know what he looking at, any thoughts mate

regards Bill :?

The bump stop part for the estates is still available from dealers, I just got a set top cut down for the Activa.

516642 is the lower block, fits in front of the arm and limits the downwards movement.

516655 is described as a rebound block and is the part you are after. The price you have is also what is quoted on Service Citroen - seems very expensive which is why mine haven't been replaced.

Hi Rory, you say your's have not been replaced, does that mean you are running without them, if so is this ok, excuse my ignorance but I've never come across bump stops before.

Hi Bill,

Richard and Rory are quite right, so I must take on large amounts of humble pie and resist the temptation to engage the ministry of excuses.

I poxed up the part number and also assumed that Citroen were quoting the price for a pair not each.

It may be worth creating an account with Service Citroen - http://service.citroen.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry for the confusion.

Andy

The hard plastic bit is still in place but the "foam" bit is virtually destroyed. They are there to stop the suspension arm from hitting the body work and limit the travel of the suspension arm. In normal driving the suspension arm should not really be coming into contact with the bump stop. If you put the car on the low "service" setting then it will sit on the bump stops but you should not be driving around in this mode at all anyway. I'm not aware of any massive detriment of leaving them as they are.

To be honest Sticky, I'd be more worried about my wheels and tyres if I'm hitting potholes so big the bump stops come into play.

They do come into play when you go airborne in an Activa though.. and it hurts when you land!
