Saxo Temperature Light
Hi Guys
Put something in the car to charge while i was driving and noticed that since i did,the temperature light stays on..no matter if its cold and the fan kicks in after 10-15 seconds of starting..don't know if its linked but everything was ok yesterday.
Any idea's ?..Car seems to drive fine etc..Just the light and the Fan on all the times is a bit annoying.
Thanks In Advance
Timmy

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
What engines in it dude? Sounds like the senders shorting out and kicking the fan in as they usually take some time to get to temp

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
Try unplugging the sensor on the left (drivers side) of the rad, see if it still kicks in.
The fact the light comes on usually points to the sensor being knackered

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
Hi chinkostu
There is nothing at the side of the Rad to unplug. There was a plug near the Thermostat with a blue and orange wire,,I unplugged that and the car was still the same. There was a box on the plastic in front of the Fan which had a relay in(Yellow)..i unplugged that and the fan didn't come on,but the light stayed on..as soon as i replaced it the fan started up again with red light on dash..Any other idea's ?
Also will the car be ok to drive as it is ?
Many Thanks

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
Hmm thats odd, thought they all had one there. Guessing theres 2 of them on the thermostat housing?
If you send me your REG by PM i can have a look on servicebox as to the exact arrangement of the senders and figure out which does what for you!

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
It may only have 1 sensor, driving the fan and light via the ECU. On the face of it, it appears that the sender is faulty - however, if it really did occur after plugging something in, then I would go and check all the fuses first. If you've blown a fuse, then all sorts of mayhem may ensure - these are French electrics after all! After that, I would get it on Lexia, and see what it says about the engine temperature from cold.

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
or even a basic diagnostics, someone with scantool or similar, i know my brothers cheaper set (well, it was about 100!) will show temps and revs and the like. see if its flagging anything up.
if the fuse had gone i'd imagine you'd have no fan at all.
on a bizzare note, try disconnecting the battery for about 20 mins, see if it kicks the ECU back to square one. the electronics are pretty simple in the saxo/106 but (from what i can gather) yours has a sensor on the thermostat housing and the signal is read by the ECU which controls the fan. previously there would be one to kick the fan in and another for the dash light/gauge!

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
Will have to find someone with a lexis or some other tool to scan it..I would say it could be a fuse,,but i thought fuses stopped things working if blown ?
Thanks for all the help

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
Sorry man been mega ill.
Yea theres normally just the one fuse for the fan. Thinking it must be grounding out somehow to kick the light and fan on.
Ill crosspost this to saxperience and see if they have any ideas

Re: Saxo Temperature Light
had a gander on your REG and it's the newer style that has the single sensor on the housing. (the older cars use the plug on the rad)
are there any scrappers nearby to pinch one to test? or can you stretch to a new one? the sensor usually gives the signal to the ECU which kicks the fan in, the relay is so there isn't a huge fat 12v wire to run it, just needs a smaller voltage to trip the relay over. as said, a lexia or even some sort of diagnostic tool should give you the temp.
have you tried disconnecting the battery? sounds odd but sometimes faults stick in the ECU

Hi
Checked the fuses and unplugged the Battery still the same..Borrowed a mates manual and it looks like there is a sensor on the right side of the engine block..has a green wire going to it..A Bit hard to get to..so will have a proper look when i have time..and update you
Thanks
