03 C5 2.0 HDI 90

Post by citronut »

i have just done a clutch on my friends C5 as in title,

he had made a proper job of it!!!!!,

the thrust bearing disintergrated till the fork was running directly onto the pressure plate fingers, which kicked the fork over at an angle this in turn allowed the slave cylinder to pop and dump its fluid,

it needed the clutch kit, diff seals, fork and the bearing guide tube

the plastic center of the bearing had melted onto the guide tube, and the remains of the bearing and fork mangled the guide tube,
the fork also chewed up/bent the pressure plate face around were the fingers protrude from and ended up looking like someone had attacted it with an angle grinder,

short story long,

on driving it after all back togrther i found the throttle does not respond as i would expect it to, it seems like there is a delay which makes it feel very flat on driving away,
my friend tells me its always like that, any input welcome,

this cars throttle is a cable operated pot
Regards, malcolm.

Check the throttle cable for slack Malcolm. They're notorious for going slack. It's adjusted in the usual way and it's a pain to get to , under / behind the fusebox. All 3 C5s I've had have needed the cable adjusting.

Could it be something else such as an old MAF, they noticeably affect performance.

thanks for your offering Mr Swiss,
but it just feels like a slow throttle response, although i haven't driven this car on the road yet,as the owner told me the tax has expired

SwissSpec probably has it Malcolm.
Both mine suffered from this, the current one couldn't get out of it's own way at first.
There were other incidentals, including MAFs and when these were seen to the cars really came to life.

Cheap fix if it is the throttle cable.

I wonder if mine is suffering the same affliction, as even after a re-map, it doesn't feel that quick or responsive tbh....i'll get it checked out.

Under the fuse box towards the back. If you've got strong hands and long fingers you can just about do it without removing much. If not... it's a bit of a fiddle but not a bad job. Made loads of difference on all of mine.

why didnt you tell me of this on Tuesday Mike whilst it were still in bits for a clutch replacement, as i had the throttle pot and its bracket removed to gain better access to the gear box mount,

thanks Swiss and Steve
if the cable makes no difference i will check the MAF,

although i did a glow ball scan with my DIS-LEXIA and it showed not wrong in the injection or the BSI are's ,

it just came up with the usual radio, multi function display and telimetrics faults, oh and an air bag fault this was due to the passengers old bag being switched oooooff

MAF sensor fault doesn't usually throw an error code Malc - you just need to check that it's reading about 400 at idle and that it increases smoothly with increasing revs on the live data.
