We only use our Xantia (1994 1.9TD) for long comfortable journeys so SHE doesn't really get used a lot BUT we have noticed that the REAR tyres are wearing unevenly with the inner bit wearing faster than the rest.
I was wondering if anybody knows the cause and is it just a tracking problem (puts her hands together in an affirmative prayer). If it is not a tracking problem, anybody got any ideas (puts her hands to her eyes and sulks forever)? If the front wheels need tracking would that effect the rear in this way. Hoping (NO, I know) someone will come up with an answer.

Re: Xantia uneven tyre wear
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that does rather sound like the trailing arm bearings.
Look at the car from behind while it is on level ground height normal, engine running and see if the tops of the rear wheels lean inwards - like this:
//===\\.
There are lots of posts covering the problem and cure. I'll try and drag them up (in the morning) but Malcolm is the expert on fixing them and will surely offer some advice when he sees this.

Re: Xantia uneven tyre wear
Estate ones are not the same as hatch ones....
The job in itself is not that dire, although the pin which holds the ram to the arm can put up a fight disproportionate to its size and cost! As you are removing the arm anyway, this is not so much of an issue, but if it won't come out, then you will need to remove the supply pipe to the ram, which is likely to result in it requiring replacement as well

Xantia S2 trailing arm repair
C5 trailing arm bearing kit
Fitting grease nipples to trailing arm bearing tube
Nowhere near as much info as I had thought - more on C5s it seems.
I'll keep digging though.

Re: Xantia uneven tyre wear
So, unless Malcolm comes up with another idea, I'm going to sulk, aren't I? All the above sounds horrendous. Thank you all for your input

Re: Xantia uneven tyre wear
The 405/6, Xantia and C5 are essentially the same, there may be refinements to the Xantia procedure that may make a difference - Malcolm will know.
