how do you change the roof aerial?

Post by waynedance »

Got the nut of the inside via the interior light and can see the plugs for the wiring but how the hell do you unplug them with destroying the headlining?

Tried to pull the headlining down at the rear but it seems to be glued and looks like going to be messy if I try to pull it down!!!!

That is the way....get some double sided carpet tape to help when you put it back up.

Given up for now as it looked like the headlining was going to be in a right creased mess.

Would an after market amplifier behind the radio do the same thing?

I guess the radio mast will still be working?

Yes poor reception.

Some of the contacts have corroded and fallen off the current aerial amp.

Looks like the linings coming down does not seem to be any alternative. New base from Citroën is approx £75+vat.

Any tips on how best to approach this job?

Does the rubber boot seal need to come off or any trim?

If saloon, remove the interior light. Access is tricky but do-able with patience with no further work, but you should in any case be able to loosen the headlining from there.

Managed to pull the plug from the hole in the roof but can not pull it to the interior light hole, loom not long enough.

If it's like those I've dealt with, the loom is clipped to the roof / headlining (somewhere towards the right of the car, IIRC). I don't recall the details now, but when unclipped there's enough slack to do the job.
They do tend to change this sort of thing though, so YMMV.

In my experience.. you have to crease the lining...but it doesn't show when its put back in place.

Changed the aerial was not as bad a job as first thought.

Reception seems better, i guess from all the wires the aerial amp is powered separate from the radio as some cars need an amplifier at the back of the radio to provide power from after market radios.

So does the C5 need such an adapter?
