Not a lot to add to this however rachet spanners and a good strong long pry bar is very handy for a multitude of jobs.

Home made tools, well I have two old XUD head bolts without the head and a nice slot in them for convenience of fitting a head without it sliding all about :D , and a home made XUD plunger retaining tool.

Is that similar to the 405/406 lower ball joint tool ? ie a socket with some cut out so its castellated ?

That reminds me an ultra deep 3/4 drive socket for the 307 lower ball joints, I can't remember the size off hand now but it took several from both the SnapOn and Mac suppliers to get a really deep one that would go straight over, much simplicity to replace them now.

41mm - I've got one to do on mine. I bought one of these: Sealy socket it's just deep enough - it slightly fouls the end of the thread, but sits down over 90%. I guess for removal the end of the thread can be removed - and i's not actually very tight to refit (59 lb ft or something IIRC?).

Do you manage them on the car? As no rattle gun I am going to remove the hub - it's only a few minutes work, and since the bottom arm won't come out without raising (or unbolting) the hub anyway it makes sense.

isnt there a socket available specifically for removing these swivels as there is for the BX and XANTS,

as with these the thread needs to protrude through the socket, so you can wind the nut on the hold the socket firmly in place

Yes 'on the car' with a rattle gun as at the time there was no official tool and it was air chisel otherwise off the car, much mess and I hate air chisels.

So I spent a bit of time asking and checking sockets until I got a very deep one that was just enough.
