Anyone used Terraclean?

Post by Bandit12 »

Hi All

Friend of mine has an Audi S8 and had a mobile terraclean service turn up and clean his engine out. He says its brilliant only took an hour and results are really noticable. He asked the technician if it would work on my 2.2HDI. Technician said yes with no probs.

I've been getting the old "clean fuel filter as soon as possible" message as well as the engine warning fault come up a few times and although the DPF filter was new about 15,000 miles ago it may benefit along with the engine etc from a clean out.

Anyone had any direct experience of this service on citroen diesels?

Would bio diesel not give similar results to terraclean? or does it get into parts of the engine which fuel doesn't?

Used to be known as a decoke, and a normal part of servicing :)

I'd get it on a Lexia first, and see what it's upset about - not regenning the filter may be due to a failed / failing sensor, which a clean out is unlikely to cure.

That makes sense. It pings up quite regularly but unpredictably. Even while doing 80 on motorway ( do of course mean 70 officer heh hem)
then dissappears after 10 seconds. I put it down to me using that PAT fluid instead of the proper DPX42. How long for and what revs do you need to properly regen the filter?
I'm also not convinced i reset the counter properly on the lexia when i last refilled with PAT fluid. Could that be causing it do you think?
Other than that the car runs sweet as a nut :)

I'm not sure from the details on their website that Terraclean claims to clean the DPF.
There are specialists who can do so, though, if you think it's needed.

Well I bit the bullet and rang the guy. He said DPF not a problem as the cleaning agents do not interfere or damage this in any way and that he has personally done a few C5 diesels all with good results. Based on this I have booked him for wednesday morning. I should get the chance to hook up the lexia before he turns up just to see if there are any faults logged.

I'll let you guys know the results

Yes mate the job was done on Wednesday and OMG! whole process took about an hour and a half and its a HUGE improvement :-D My C5 estate was never going to be a Ferrari but its much more responsive on the throttle, I can now be much lighter on the right pedal, she maintains a steady speed up hills where she would usually slow down. She is faster on the flat for the same pedal pressure.

Only done a hundred and fifty miles so far but on board computer is showing average mpg in the mid 40s where it used to be in the mid thirties :-D

No more error messages about emission control failures and only had one message about cleaning the fuel filter and that was after getting stuck behind some old duffer doing 35 in a 60 zone for 20 miles. (I was 4 cars back and couldn't overtake safely without cars in front either going first or un gluing themselves from the bumper of the car in front!!) [-X

All in for £110 so I'm a happy Bandit :-D

My neighbour has a focus diesel that spits out black smoke and he had the bloke do his. Result is no more black smoke and he says it drives like new.

Bumping an old thread....

I'm looking in to having this done on my Megane 1.5 dci, the exhaust is a bit over-smelly when it's starting from cold.

Has anyone else recently had this done? Most things I've heard and read are positive, although there are a few "sceptics" who say it's a bit of a snake-oil/seafoam engine placebo?

I do hear this snake oil BS quite a lot and its just that BS - it really doesn't matter if you use terraclean every so often or use a fuel additive at every fill - most have the same result.

I used to be in the HGV trade as a fleet engineer and i can assure people that the big fleets are using fuel additives now for the advantages it provides with EGR and DPF problems.

If you haven't been using a decent additive then terraclean is an ideal way to clean the engine and get your performance and fuel mileage back, however i would advise you either use a decent fuel additive at every fill or use a one off cleaner every 6 months from then on.

Modern diesels do coke up and any cleaner is a good idea. Like i say i have first hand knowledge of not terraclean but other types of snake oil and it does work.

I used a bottle of redex advanced recently and that made a tangible difference, and I try to use something different every other fill. I've got the feeling that if I prevent the engine getting too comfortable with a certain additive, it'll keep the engine cleaner. Different formulas produce differing results and effects, so using a bit of everything once every few weeks should hopefully cover most areas :-)

I'm tempted by the terraclean as it seems to give the engine a good clear out. Having said that, my mpg around town is 47.4, which ain't bad at all, so I might just stick to a regular treatment
