can someone help, got 1997 2.0 xantia,steering feels notchy cant make it out,checked wheels etc,drives great apart from this.is it the rack??or a xantia quirk.feels as if one wheel wonts to go one way to the the other..its got me hate garages they rip you off.got new spheres all round so its not them.

When did you last have your LHM changed and the filters cleaned. It could be that your fluid is old and your filters are clogged.

Just a thought, but I recently serviced the ball joints on my BX 16V drop links and as a follow up job I did the ball joints on the tie rod ends. I couldn't believe the difference it made to the steering. If you go to the "General problems & fixes" section and look for "Front end rattles, another perspective" I've described what I did on the drop links etc, however the same type of thing applies to the ball joints on the tie rod ends and I would imagine on the actual ball joints on the lower control arms. Might be worth a try as it's only a very short job.
Check also the steering tighteness when you have the wheels off and then the tie rods disconnected as this may help isolate the problem.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
