suspension

Post by michael1 »

good afternoon, last night i was trying to unhitch a trailer and it was lifting the car up the hitch was stuck, so i thought i'd use the suspension to lower down the car (sorry it's a c5) could it be the fuse or have i band jacked it.what do i need do to get the main fuse board out.thanks

I'm not sure what you mean, has it got stuck on low?

Concerning your original problem of unhitching the trailer, could you not try assisting the hitch to lift off the ball by setting up a jack just behind the hitch? Thinking that maybe it's just a bit tight? Did you have to jump on it to secure the hitch in the first place?

I'm assuming the trailer and car are on relatively level ground so that when you try lifting the hitch, the trailer's not making a bid for freedom?

I often had problems taking the caravan off the c5. I found that I had to not touch the suspension, and if it started lifting the car, let the handbrake off on the car and rock it gently just by a light push and it came off no problem.

yes it's stuck in low, there was a jockey wheel on the trailer i was lifting it off with that i've been towing trailers for years but for some reson it wouldn't budge.
it's been raining here all day so i couldn't get out to try and see if it was the fuse.Do i just undo the nut at the front of the fuse box to get at the fuses underneath ?

I think maybe the dog bone has come off when you used the jocky wheel, it should just clip back on if not broken.

Under the rear, look at the anti roll bar, ...on that is the connector that links it to the height corrector. The "dog bone" is the ball & socket jointed connector between the two. About 3 inches long

PS....it may be a good thing to do a forum search and read up on C5 suspension.

DO NOT GO UNDER a Citroen unless it is ON STANDS....NEVER trust a jack.....the Car WILL try and KILL YOU.

There are "other" hings that can go wrong,
(FYI, when you jack a Citroen, place it in High position first, the jockey wheel was the jack in this case)

It may be the case the height corrector itself has seized.....spay it, wiggle it,repeat spray and clean, to get it moving. It is basically a rheostat, no need to force it, work it clean slowly then use spray light grease.

IF the pump fuse has blown, others will be better at helping to diagnose than me and will chime in I am sure.
