UK Cars, it is supposed to be fuse 22 on pre 1998 cars and fuse 24 for 1998 onwards cars.

Other reasons for failure-

Seized spindle
Seized mechanism
Stripped plastic cog (usually due to one of the above)
Failed timer relay. (attached to wiper motor)
Worn motor brushes.
Broken wire(s) (usually around when the loom passes from body into tail gate.
Worn switch.

I would start with checking if there is power to the motor assembly, if yes its one of the first 5, if no you need to start working back towards the switch and fusebox.

Good luck

Hi Rory thanks for your reply, it's a french one 1995, so it could be fuse 24, your a man after my own heart I thought maybe siezed as it's been sitting in the garage a while (due to my ill health) I can only last about 15 minues before I need to rest for at least 20 ... pain in the bum ... my next step was to see if I had any power at the motor, I understand the rest now thanks to you ... LOL !!! this getting old is no fun.
