Gear selector cable 2444y4 HELP!!

Post by Pete99 »

Can anyone help.
I am trying to find a gear selector cable part no. 2444y4. Apparently citroen have stopped supplying them. They only have a replacement with a modification, coming in at £200 (OUCH). My old C5 cannot warrant that expenditure. I have tried a breakers, they sent whole unit which was wrong, despite assuring me that it was for a be4r box. I am at my wits end trying to track down this cable. Surely a company somewhere must be manufacturing this part of an equivalent.
Any help would be must appreciated.

I've tried looking at some russian supply sites, the cable with that part no. is available from 70 - 270 GBP (I'm guessing cheaper ones are used, expensive ones probably new replacements), a few german sites offer the cable at approx. 65 GBP (VAT incl., the availability should be double checked of course)

they still show as available from Citroen on service citroen,

who told you they are not supplying them anymore,

you could either ask the dealer to do an all dealer search, or do a goooogly search with the part No. to see if anyone has NOS = new old stock,

I've tried several citroen dealerships and even though it shows on parts list both came back saying that part is not available but there is a modification part consisting of a cable and plate, coming in at 200 quid. The car is only wort about 400 so doesn't warrant that cost.

Can your own cable not be repaired?

i just asked my local dealer if he could do an all dealer search, he tells citroen dont do that service anymore, but do a different scheme which this dealer is not part of,

the replacement part for £200 is not a modification but the complete cable set and mounting plate

Citroen parts supply and their dealers these days are absolutely crap, aren't they...

Pete,
Can you give me a link to parts diagram showing what part you're after exactly (I assume this is one of the cables between the gear stick gate and the box but can't picture it, having not taken a C5 apart to that degree yet) and what the part numbers on it will be (if it's not off an 01 HDi, I'll need to check if one from a different model is the same)

I'm going to a breakers this weekend that had 5x C5's in (varying types/ages) so I'll have a look and see if they've got it. If so, I'll get it for you.
They're cheap, so I'd image they'd only want something like £10-£15 for the part if I take it off.

Peter gives the OE part No. at the begining of this thread as being "2444y4"

he also says its a "C5 2001 hdi", #-o

it seems PSA in there wisdom ( money making/grabbing scheme ) have dropped the individual cables and just sell them as a set including mountings now

The price is not that fantastic really. Last time I bought a pair of gearchange cables for a mk 1 focus they cost nearly £180 for the pair. Cheap ones of ebay are useless usually by the way.

Yep, but is that the part number that will actually be on the part itself - IME the part number on the part itself doesn't necessarily match the Citroen catalogue number.
Also, I know he says it's from an 01 hdi, but I'd expect the same part will be shared on some other models, which is why I'd need to know exactly what I'm looking for on the car (they didn't have an 01 hdi in, so I'm offering to check all the others that they do have in, take it off, buy it and post it off to him - provided I know what I'm looking for!)

Citroen selling cables as generic kits is nothing new really - that's how they've supplied throttle cables for most of their cars when they've gone out of production, for a long time

Like I say, PSA after sales parts support and dealer knowledge these days is absolutely disgraceful :|
TBH, it would be enough to put me off buying newer Citroens, even if I liked the rest of the car :(

Numbers on parts are rarely the parts catalogue numbers, they're the numbers used by the actual sub contractors in the manufacture. They can of course be used to compare parts from a breakers yard once you have them off and in front of you.

I wonder what the problem is with the op's cables, they don't get enough work to break the cable, usually the problem I've found is that they just become un-crimped where the outer cable fits into the bracket at the gear lever base and can be fixed to work again with a little diy effort.

no no not a generic kit as the throttle cable kits are, but the complete cable set this particular car, instead of both cables being sold separately as they were, and are shown also on service citroen
