My EPS light kept coming on and the Lexia said there was a problem with the steering wheel position sensor.
To fix this my local Citroen guy has replaced the comms unit but says that I need to go back to have it calibrated.
I have a Lexia so is calibrating the coms unit easy or is it something best left to the mechanic.
Basically, how is it done?

Re: C8 - Coms unit calibration
Fairly easy to do, Lexia guides you through it. Firstly the car must drive straight when the steering wheel is in the dead straight ahead position, if not the tracking needs to be sorted out first or you are wasting your time.
You ideally need a quiet flat bit of road like an empty car park as lexia will tell you to move the car a bit.
Not done this for ages but from memory you access the programing through the ABS/ESP menu, select calibration of the steering angle sensor (or words to that effect). Lexia will then guide you through what you need to do. I think it tells you to turn the steering full lock each way then line it up central, then asks you to move the car a short distance without touching the steering wheel so that it centralises (this is where the flat empty car park comes in).
Why did your local Citroen guy not do this ? it takes less than 10 minutes.

He claimed that his software was not updated so he couldn't access the car.
I suspect he was just too busy to be honest.

Re: C8 - Coms unit calibration
Tried it myself and it seems like there is no data from the new sensor and calibration aborts with a fault after the first step.
It is almost as if they forgot to plug the sensor in :/

Worth a check, it's the blue 6 way plug for the angle sensor.MikeRatcliffe wrote:Tried it myself and it seems like there is no data from the new sensor and calibration aborts with a fault after the first step.

...either that or they fitted wrong COM2000 and it doesn't have a sensor!

Re: C8 - Coms unit calibration
The car had failed it's MOT at another garage because the ESP light comes on when cranking the wheel hard right. A bit harsh in my opinion but I guess I want the ABS to behave properly.
Turns out though that when cranking the wheel hard right the drivers side front wheel rubs against the wheel well so the mechanic had unplugged the unit.
He checked the steering system to see if a stop is missing or something but has decided that I need the steering rack replacing so that the comms unit can be calibrated.
The guy is a decent mechanic with a great reputation... I have just never heard of a steering rack problem causing the steering wheel to be able to turn further to the right than the left (a good half a turn extra).

if a rack is not set up correctly on fitting this can happen apparently,or someone has adjusted tracking at one side only,MikeRatcliffe wrote: I have just never heard of a steering rack problem causing the steering wheel to be able to turn further to the right than the left (a good half a turn extra).
a lot of tyre shops do this, when you are meant to adjust both sides equally
