C8 - Can a faulty parking sensor break the trip computer?

Post by MikeRatcliffe »

Recently two things happened on my C8 at the same time:
  • When I go into reverse my parking sensors sometimes give a continuous beep.
  • My trip computer (rectangular display just below the speedo etc.) is sometimes blank and when it decides to start up the time and date are reset.
If I connect my Lexia I can see that (errors are from memory):
  • There is an open circuit in my rear left parking sensor.
  • The display has no permanent positive.
I am wondering if a short in a parking sensor can pull enough juice from the battery to occasionally stop the trip computer from starting.

I wouldn't imagine the parking sensor would have anything to do with the trip meter. As for the trip computer, id look at the battery, the date & time resetting could be an early warning sign of the battery failing, the voltage may be dropping too low on startup & causing the date & time resetting.

Yeah, I reckon a new battery would make sense.
