I've been very pleased with the pair of Nexens on the front of the Xantia all last summer - I've never found the limit of grip even when caught out on one memorable occasion; in pouring rain, a stream of muddy water pouring across the road half-way round a sharp blind bend - not even a twitch from the front though the back did slide slightly.

I'm quite into Nexens just now. They are a decent tyre at a decent price. My daughter has 4 Nexen winters on her car just now and her summer wheels needs 2 new tyres, got 2 Nexen last year so will get two more for a full set before they go on in a couple of months. 85 quid each from our local tyre man for 225/40x18 fitted with a lifetime warranty. That can't be bad.

What is a lifetime warranty on a tyre? Does it mean if it gets damaged & can't be repaired it'll get replaced free of charge?

Basically that is it, but they measure the tread left and you pay for the amount of tread used. Get free puncture repairs too. I don't think it applies unless you buy them and have them fitted from an authorised Nexen dealer.

Same deal I have with the Avon tyres. Has to be national tyres though.

I think the Avons should be a decent choice Rick. I have heard others giving good reviews of them on other forums. I have never to my knowledge had them on any car I have owned.

The Avon's on mums scenic are prity decent. Nothing in it really compared to the continentals they replaced but a good trustworthy tyre that corners confidently (for a wobble car) and stops well. Dad says the Avon's are quieter, I don't drive their cars often enough to notice.
I'm following this thread with interest as I've not yet selected my summer tyres. Barums were a favourite on my last xantia a few years back but they are overpriced nowadays considering the rate they wear at.

There are wide reports within the tyre trade of some Avon tyres becoming out of shape. What I've heard is its more towards the ZZ5 performance tyres but still some thing to bare in mind.

Having said that. On my old Tsport yaris I had a set of new Avon ZV5 and they were fab!
