Just looked it up. The Eco comes in at £30 per year the standard one is £145 per year the same as the 406 110hp. emissions 144gm per km. But those prices only apply to cars registered after March 2001.

Hmmm the 206 eco seems interesting, is the engine any different and would it be dearer to service, tried looking online to see if there's a explanation as to eco 90 bhp vs standard 90 bhp in the 2.0 hdi 206's, and I've seen a few posts that mention ECO mode that causes problems.
I think I'm way of track here but something at the back of my mind tells me that the Eco version (although they are both 90 horses) has the expensive FAP filter assembly fitted.
Unless the Eco is a detuned one instead, say dropping to 70 horses.
I'm not really sure (no change there then)

02 106D, TUD5B, gone but not really missed apart from the MPG
I agree with Peter, 306s are superb. We have had 2 long term and 1 we bought for a relative to use over 4 months while he was over for 4 months. Brilliant car, compact on the outside but enormous inside when compared to 106/ ax and saxo which We've had before and much less cramped than a 206. Same car as the Zx and xsara. Just check camber of rear wheels as the rear axle has issues, although we have never had this in 6 years and 3 cars
We've had a 1.6 petrol, bit thirsty but bullet proof, had done 160000 miles by the time valve seals made the emissions fail mot. Currently have 2.0 8v HDi 90 hp. It's a hoot in a light car and excellent economy at 45 mpg only around town. We use the xantia for long journeys and the camper for holidays. It's comfy and been very reliable.
saying that I loved my Ax and wish I had kept it as getting rare now. The 1.1 Ax was very very frugal but it was 10 years ago now so can't remember figures.
The Zx 1.4 petrol I had wasn't much different to the 1.9i volcane I had, probably late 20's mpg very early 30's. The 306 would be a good choice too, I drove a 1.9td years ago with mega mileage on and really loved it. A 2.0hdi would be a cracking car.
