Tiger tuning box

Post by bill hughes »

Hi all
I've just bought a Xantia 2.0 hdi 90 bhp and among the bills is one for a Tiger tuning box, my mate who I bought it off knows nothing about it, previous owner maybe,I'm not sure if its been fitted or not, has anyone had any experience of this device, many thanks,
Bill

Well, if it is still fitted, it should be somewhere on the engine (should be hard to miss)

Thanks for that vborovic, I assumed that's where it would be but don't know exactly what it looks like, I hoped that someone would have fitted one and could give me an idea where it might be hiding.

How much did it cost? I googled tiger tuning box and found this http://www.ckspeed.co.uk/tigertuning/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If it was cheap (say £50 or under) then chances are it was the same or similar. It Tee's into the common rail pressure sensor cable and fools the ECU into thinking it isn't getting enough fuel. In other words (as said above) a box of resistors. I'm not sure where this would connect in on a Xantia 90 HDi, but I would start looking at the fuel rail from above.
If it was more expensive (say £100+) it may be similar to the box on my Xsara HDi 110 which Tee's into the loom from the ECU to the injectors. On mine, It plugs into the harness low down on the front of the engine (Sort of underneath the oil filter, but more towards the middle of the car) I found a space for the box itself next to the ABS block, but that's probably in a completely different place in a Xantia.

Hi miked thanks for your reply, I don't have an actual bill just a letter thanking the purchaser for buying it and stating that fits all Peugeot and Citroen 2.0 and 2.1 hdi engines, it also says it has 8 switches in the box for grades of tuning, does this sound anything like yours, and does it improve anything, many thanks

I've heard of these diesel "tuning" boxes with lots of switches to vary the level of "tune" from better economy to higher power... they used to advertise them on the back of retro cars/PPC and similar sort of magazines, always wondered if they really were any good. From what I remember of the adverts the boxes were vehicle specific and plugged into the loom, but not sure where sorry :/ if it's the same thing then you're looking for a box about the size of a fag packet maybe a bit bigger, black with blue/white decals & about 8 buttons & LED's on the front. I would assume they were mounted within reach of the drivers seat so they could be adjusted on the move :? They certainly looked more of a cabin-mounted type of thing than something you'd shove under the bonnet.

It will be a small box the size of a cigarette pack with a long flexi cable approx 3ft long. This will sit inbetween a plug that goes into the engine management.

Many thanks for all your replies, I've been too busy to investigate it further but plan to have a dig around at the weekend.
