Xantia rubber suspension pipe

Post by flygirl757 »

Hi Guys and Gals. Sorry but it's me again - lol - with my usual obscure question designed to tax your brain cells.
The car is a 1994 Xantia 1.9TD in good condition. Unfortunately, it has developed a fluid leak under the nearside front wheel arch. It is coming from a short rubber pipe (about 24 inches long - it seems to have a small flat valve abut halfway down)) which is strapped to the upright suspension strut. Can someone tell me what it is and where to get one (knowing its technical name will help my bf order one)? In addition, does anyone know of a French Car breakers in the Cheshire/Manchester area. Now THAT would be helpful. Alternatively, if anyone has one of these pipes lying around in their kitchen, I'd gladly pay postage and packing.
Hope someone can help us identify this thing.
Thanking you in advance.

Hi,

This pipe is your hydraulic leak back pipe from the front hydraulic cylinder.

Stealer price $16.37.

Eurocarcare do it for a tenner http://www.eurocarcare.net/hydraulics.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope this is helpful.

Easy enough to swap too...

One thing only to add to your post Kenny and that's to get a new clip from a stealer as although the old clip is usually re-usable, especially if you use the proper tool on it, sod's law says that if you don't have a replacement to hand it won't be...

Depending on where it's split, these can be repaired with a suitable bit of tube inserted....

I recently had to have one of these and the clip replaced as a split had developed, was quite impressed that they were available and not ridiculously expensive, the other side was showing signs of age (16yrs) deterioration, cracking etc so it's probably wise to get both sides done at once.

WOW! Thank you Guys and (maybe) Gals. As usual, you have all come up trumps. So so SO helpful. No idea how we would have kept this car on the road without the help of this forum. Thank you all a million.

I discovered a couple of days ago, mine had split about 1cm from the uppermost end.. I just pulled it off, cut it above the split and pushed it back on again.. works fine.. obviously, as its perishing it will get replaced when I do the front pipes in April.

Well that's spooky! I was looking at my return pipes only minutes ago! They are getting very scary looking at the strut end and are generally looking quite perished all over. I'd be ever so grateful if anyone had any tips or wise words regarding their replacement.

Thanks!
Matthew.

They do perish like mad and when they lgo they spill an amazing amount of LHM!

The only wise words Matthew is to get the proper tool for the clips (Laser make one) and when refitting the new one make sure the hole in the foot of the pipe (where it sits against the strut) registers exactly with the hole in the strut.

It's not hard to fit it a few degrees out so the two holes fail to register correctly..

Apart from that the job is easy... The other end is just a push fit on the end of the ongoing return pipe back to the reservoir.

GSF used to supply genuine leg pipes for the BX but only sell after meerkat ones not made of jelly,

i dont know about the XANT ones though

i use a pair of carpenters pinchers

https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q= ... s&tbm=shop" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;,

i just grind the edges of the jaws so they are thinner/sharper so they dont get in the way of the clip locking on its self

Can confirm that GSF do nice sealed-in-a-bag genuine citroen pipes. The BX ones are nasty jelly pieces-o-crap.
