NaviDrive RT4/5 and SSD

Post by osx »

Project for this weekend will be to replace the NaviDrive RT4/5 hard disk with an SSD. Moving the data is the easy part but getting the hard disk out will be the tricky part - do I need any special tools?

Disk was much easier to remove than expected. It was a 30GB Toshiba IDE nicely secured under the CD player. Can't remember when was the last time I saw one of these! Updated the firmware first to 8.31 and getting the SSD ready

Have you tried using a computer with and without an SSD? Plus the much better reliability, less noise, less heat.

Yes (I generally use an iPad) but I can't see how it will benefit the sat nav as it's woken up as soon as you unlock the car so there's no delay in it booting up, noise isn't an issue as it's drowned out by general background noise, heat, no problem to me personally.

If however the hard drive was knackered I can see why you'd do it, but if it isn't you have me wondering if you're entering into the realms of "if it ain't broke keep mending it until it is"

I would have bought a second drive anyway to backup the factory one and customise some settings. Made more sense to use one of my old ssd's that was just collecting dust rather than buying one more disk.
