Re: Snow motion without snow
What's weird is that I can't find anything about it in the Service Documentation ... not event the gearbox shaft border (with Snow Motion text written on it) ... let alone figuring out what are the mechanical differences (if any), or is it just a different ECU/Firware (on several on-board computers maybe, not just one) telling the car to behave differently on snow (SMotion opposed to the non-SMotion)...

Re: Snow motion without snow
Page 114 of my owner's manual says.......
"Your Vehicle has a system to help driving on snow : SNOW MOTION.
This automatic system continuosly checks for situations of difficult surface adhesion that could make it difficult to move off or make progress on deep fresh snow or compacted snow.
In these situations, the SNOW MOTION system takes over from the ASR system by optimising the amount of wheel slip to provide the best traction and trajectory control, even without snow tyres and with or without snow chains.
.....In extremely severe conditions (snow on top of ice, sand, deep mud...), it can be useful to deactivate the ESP/ASR systems to allow a degree of wheel spin and so recover grip.
.....These systems are activated automatically each time the vehicle is started. They come into operation in the event of a grip or trajectory problem."
My car is just an ordinary VTR+ Nav manual. The snow motion is standard as part of the Anti-Skid Regulation (ASR) and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP).
Hope that helps.

Re: Snow motion without snow
There you go, no logical explanation so far about the difference, except different markets ... we're obviously not considered a snowy country over here to have that feature introduced (or, actively marketed) ...
@ moose - any chance you send me your VIN via PM, so I can try to figure out the difference between your car and mine, in hope to shed light about the Snow Motion, why one has it, the other doesn't ?

Re: Snow motion without snow
Or is it that they've all actually got the Snow Motion software installed, it's just that yours hasn't got the words Snow Motion written on the chrome gearstick surround ? I think you need to find some snow vborovic....... and a new chrome surround for your gearstickmooseshaver wrote:There you go, no logical explanation so far about the difference, except different markets ... we're obviously not considered a snowy country over here to have that feature introduced (or, actively marketed) ...

Re: Snow motion without snow
That's also what I was thinking, but the thing is, in the older manuals (english & croatian), no mention of Snow Motion, in the later ones (croatian one being printed late 2011), Snow Motion is mentioned (your car has SMotion, blah blah ...) ... so, there is a possibility it is just a different ECU firmware, or whatever ... or, they suddenly decided to promote this more openly ... as for the chrome surrounding, no snow motion variant is being mentioned in the Service Documentation under available trims ... I actually tried the car in deep snow last year, there was a topic here, the car is stable, etc ... but I don't know whether due to regular ESP or actually due to Snow Motion ...

Re: Snow motion without snow
There are two things about it....
On the Auto, you have the Snow Motion on the wheels with independent sensing and variable braking, add to that a "softer gear change/pull away" from Auto Box to give more wheel control plus.
I think the advance is the greater control over the brakes with variable pressure to give a "independent like" drive to each wheel
Just looked on the Citroen UK main site.....it seems they now call it ITC..Intelligent Traction Control.....which is maybe more accurate

Mot passed. Warnings that front tyres are close to legal minimum. Only had them for 7752 miles!
