Hdi ones are a little easyer.. the pump on the engine does NOT need to be timed to start with..

the flywheel still has the locking hole behind the starter to hold the crank at tdc .. and theres a locking pin location for the cam too.. be aware though the cam lock is NOT a screw in like the ole TD XUD.. but just a push in pin for example a 6mm allen key.

belt tension is not automaticallly set either be a spring tensioner. Its an eccentric one that you need to set correctly by the use of a seeams guage.. or by eye if you have done pleanty. Toooo tight the engine will whine badly.. too slack the belt will flap.. also as with xud change the water pump at the same time. On a hdi do also change the tensioners..

those are the largest differences.. an actual how too... yea take some typeing and memeory recall too..

90 should be a bit easier, as you don't have to contend with the inner wing torque link, nor the electrovalves on the bulkhead (although there maybe one for the EGR valve?) although with yours being an earlier one, it may not have the water cooler pipe on the back of the engine that further restricts access. No harder than a 1.9 TD really.

Walk in the park then Paul

service.citroen doesn't reveal the date of the change over - just lists EEC 95 and EEC 2000 as engine options. My HDi 110 was built Dec 2000 and had the later engine. Interestingly, the later engine in 90 guise has the two solenoid valves above the RH end of the engine, one to operate the EGR, the other the inlet swirl valve but not one near the TPS, whereas on the later 110s, the swirl valve solenoid is over by the TPS, where the EGR one used to be on the earlier 90s. See, told you it was interesting!!
