scary experience
Hi lads coming home thursday on the motorway when c5 decided it was good time to shut down every system so no lights no power steering no engine nothing lasted about a minute then started up again hasnt stopped since but any ideas welcome all battery connections fine.No real indication of alternator failure either.

Re: scary experience
No idea, either battery problem or an electrical glitch. Had that in an AX diesel once, driving along & then it just turned off. Re-started & everything was fine, never had the problem repeat itself for the rest of the time i owned the car, v-strange. There is quite a lot about C5 batteries causing all manner of problems when they are on their last legs.

Re: scary experience
Check your earth leads on the battery and where they connect on the chassis and g'box. Normally positive leads will cause issues but full death is usually a naff earth. Had a saxo that did the same, was scary

Re: scary experience
Checked earths and they seem fine battery is reading 13.6 so i presume that's ok the ac pulley screeches every once in a while plugged it in to lexia clone but nothing really recorded about power loss baffled

Re: scary experience
May just be a one off, or possibly a lose wire somewhere which caused a connection issue to the car's brain? Perhaps don't worry about it, unless it does it again, you could spend a fortune & never getting a diagnosis.

Re: scary experience
Really sounds like a major electrical connection issue. My 306 did exactly the same a few years back (in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere of course), and it turned out to be the engine to body earth strap that had dissolved.
I'd give all of those leads a really good wiggle around and see if you can replicate the fault. Mine had gone right at one end and wasn't at all visible - until the wire pulled clean out of the connector at one end.
Given earth straps are only a few quid might be worth sticking an extra one in place if that side of the system is at all suspect. Or at least grab one to add to the box of misc in the boot case you need it.

Re: scary experience
Hey thats strange, just browsing and found this thread. My c5 did the same thing two weeks ago, in dual carriage rd works, no where to pull over. Just coasted, I think I had engine running (hdi) and powersteering but no display dials or power. I was just coasting pumpi g throttle and flicking the key round and Eventually it restarted and took off. Never done it before or since. It was a bit like someone hit me with emp. Very scary and strange. Im leaving it until something happens again. If it does then ill look.

Re: scary experience
Dont want to hijack but thanks man handy stuff there, it has had a lumpy start recently but clears and runs fine. I think the maff has trouble in the cold too. But my shut down was when fully warmed up? Although I have had just today those sudden throw ya forward misses? . I was hoping just the maff again as I registered minus five degrees this morning. Where abouts are those seat wirings ? Im guna check the block earth too.
