C5 2002 (52) 110BHP anti pollution fault

Post by THELABMAN »

Hi Folk,

I was taking my wife to a class tonight when the anti pollution fault warning came up on the computer screen, I've never had this before and as this C5 doesn't have a DPF or anything I'm wondering what the likely fault might be ...

Regards

Peter

It can throw up the depollution signal for many and varied reasons. You will probably never see it again. It has only ever shown up once on my two C5s and seemingly without reason, was gone on next startup.

Hi myglaren.

The anti pollution warning was still there when I started the car up again after her class, like you I was hoping it was one of these glitches that Citroens throw up from time to time... if it's still there in the morning then I'm going to have to start wondering what the issue is I guess ....

Check the air filter is clean and dry before delving too deeply.
It can take up to five starts & runs before clearing if it is a spurious/temporary fault although mine only displayed the once.
A reduced battery voltage can give rise to numerous fault warnings, none of which are actual faults. Keep an eye on the voltage indicator, see if it takes longer than usual to reach the 'normal' level - slightly over half way on mine.

If you have a multimeter check also the actual battery voltages.

Mine threw a wobbly last week after I had been poking around with the headlight - dead as a nit - I think I may have left lights on too long but when it was needed for my son to go to work at 22:45 it refused to start and threw up an immobiliser fault.
Battery voltage at 11.97V. Recharged overnight and all was well.
Gave it a 100 mile run out the following day to cheer it up a bit :)

I'll try and look at the air filter tomorrow the voltage indicator settles about slightly over the half way mark quite quickly ... the battery is fairly new, just over a year old so should be fine... famous last words.....

Probably need to Lexia it if it won't go out. Mandrake or I are not far from you, and suitably equipped :)

Could be the old favorite, the pressure regulator on the HP pump.

The light was out this morning when I started her up and stayed out for the 20 min drive over to the baths for my wife's swimming lesson but after dropping her off the light came on about 5 mins after restarting the car up and stayed on for most of the day... I stopped on the way home at my local garage and I've booked her in for an engine service as she's due oil and filter change so I'm going to get them to change the air filter and fuel filter whilst it's in.... The light was off when I came out the garage and has stayed off to now .... a Lexia session would be lovely as she's never had one in the nearly 5 years I've owned her ....

Came in with the facelift on the 8v but I believe the 2.2 had it earlier.

Hi folks .. just an update to say the car had a full engine service today with an oil change, oil, air and fuel filters done and a new intercooler fitted.... the old one was leaking and the old girl, even with 151,000 miles showing, is running like a dream and no anti pollution light on.. I must admit that I'd not noticed anything wrong with the car but with the new intercooler fitted she's driving beautifully, the garage reckons maybe this was the issue as I'd have been losing power due to the leak.... maybe sometimes it doesn't pay to drive like an Octogenarian all the time ...

Hi Folk.... another update... anti pollution fault lights coming on and going off like a Jack in the box now... if I start the car and it stays off it can be off all day or in other cases pop on after a few minutes ... when it comes on it can be on all day or go off the next time I start the engine.... another issues a lack of power, sometimes if the lights on the engine won't rev above 3,000 rpm other times it's fine.... I know really I need a Lexia session but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated .... .

You've done all the obvious things, so Lexia is next. If you run it down here to Lanark sometime, I'll stick it on.
