2004 Xsra Picasso diesel cambelt replacement cost?

Post by rmunns »

I live in France, but try to get much of my car needs sorted out in UK, when I visit to see family. Reason is cost. Can someone please indicate the going rate for a cambelt change in a 2004 Xsara Picasso 2.0Hdi? Over here quote is such that it hardly seems worth it, compared to the car's value. BTW mileage = 63000.

On the C5 I would think probably £300 by an independent, don't know how easy the Xsara is in comparison. I always do it myself, the belt is about £20. I think but if you have a kit and water pump it will probably nearer £100.

This is a very good, fair price.

Jeeez!!!
I must have a look at one of those.
E570 for a timing belt and water pump???
I can't recall ever having the neck to ask that for a timing belt job, so either it's a rip-off or the Picasso is a nightmare.
Is the car built around the engine, with all access to service items blocked by the chassis? Not impossible, of course, but unlikely in anything other than a MB A class, or Smart...

A Citroen specialist local to me quoted me £410 about 18 months ago to do a timing belt and waterpump on the Berlingo.

I pointed out that I could get it done at the Citroen dealer for £60 less than that, and they blamed their prices on the dealer, saying the independents could no longer compete because dealers were offering cut-price deals like that and trying to put them out of business.

I took it to Savoy who did it for around what Lighty quoted, including an oil and filter.
